Motorway Signs
When travelling on the motorway I often see overhead signs saying "This camera is not in operation". Can anybody suggest a plausible reason for them? My only suggestion is it's an invitation to exceed the speed limit with impunity. Bob

Re: Motorway Signs
We had some some new matrix signs added (at great cost) on the A14. Formany months afterwards, they added temporary signs underneath saying " Signs not in use". Go figure.

Yes I know exactly what you mean. I go on the A14 a fair bit. I bet I've seen them....And the cost to tell you what? Bob

On North Wales' motorway (the A55) at Northop they often display - 'Tired, take a break' just after you've passed the services and the next services is about 20 miles further on.

It's comforting to find I am not the only one to finding motorway signage often useless. I will except the M25 where the variable speed limit does ease the flow of traffic. And while I'm at it how about "Beware Fog" when it's as clear as a bell! I could go on....ask my wife!

Re: Motorway Signs
We have one on the A30 that says for example, Bodmin 60 miles .. 62 minutes. Since everyone is going a different speed and I might even stop for a cuppa how do they know we will all take 62 minutes?

Personally, I hate all of the "Take a Break" signs!!Paulmold wrote:On North Wales' motorway (the A55) at Northop they often display - 'Tired, take a break' just after you've passed the services and the next services is about 20 miles further on.
When I am really tired, really in need a break and almost nodding off at the wheel I read the next "Tired, take a Break" sign ....
.... and come fully awake with the realisation that a profit hungry company will rip me off it I dare to stop for more than 2 hours!!
Best regards,

Re: Motorway Signs
Talking take a break; we were travelling back 'up North' with caravan in tow from Bournemouth last Thursday into the early hours of Friday morning and thought would stop for 'a break' about 01.00 hrs. Pulled into Donnington services and headed to the 'caravans only' park. Surprise surprise it was full of lorries as was the whole large vehicle part of the services. Car parking was pretty empty so managed to wiggle round the chicane into said area and risked the wrath of the parking signs saying no parking for other classes of vehicles other than cars.
So, how do we take a legal break?
Hoping I don't get a ticket as my cab cam didn't save the blocked 'legal' areas video.

Yes a perennial problem knowing where to park in the the services area...I often fall foul of unclear signs. BTW what is a caravan?

Jaytee if you were towing a caravan with the Winchcombe you would have filled the parking area all by yourself!
If you were towing with a car then tell them cars are allowed in the car park anyway!

Re: Motorway Signs
Motorway signs I find annoying are warnings at junction number (whatever number). I can never remember which number is which place or even know where they are. Why is it not possible to say Dartford or Leatherhead or some other place name rather than a number?

Re: Motorway Signs
I sometimes imagine the almighty fight going on between a couple of chevrons: the sign asks me to "Keep 2 chevrons apart". I think they mean " Keep apart by 2 chevrons"....

Bobskate: a caravan is a horrible contraption that has to be 'tugged' around at a snails pace behind my underpowered but will go anywhere Defender as the swmbo insists we keep it as well as the 'wonderful' fast, easy to drive, convenient, more economical, great fun MH that I would always prefer to use
