It should have been in stores from last Thursday. Their website doesn't show any 'past' offers so you need to visit a store to see if any left. This is the multimeter listed on a 'best buy' type website, just so you can see what it's like...

Lidl multimeter Empty Re: Lidl multimeter

Given that it will cost about a pound (?) to post, it makes me wonder what kind of accuracy you are getting for £1:97 bearing in mind that the seller and the importer (from China?) will be making a profit on them too, how much do they actually cost to make?
Or are they knock-off?

Just ordered one! lol4

Not that I need it I’m already the proud owner of 4 mutimeters including a 1950s Avo (remember them)? I just thought it was worth cashing up me £2.97 just to see how good (or bad) they are. Purely out of interest really.

Incidentally the 1950s Avo is still working perfectly and still as accurate as the day it was made. I bet the £2.97 special won’t be around in sixty years time. Then again neither will I. tap_fingers

I doubt it. I see the seller has sold 1600 odd units according to Ebay, with that sort of quantity it’s possible to get incredibly low quotes from China (and the like).
Off course anyone with any conscience about the possible age and working conditions of the people making them might think again.

Well I did buy one and it has to be said that it worked and amazingly was in specification (i.e. accuracy 0.5%). The build quality was however very poor as you might expect for a meter priced at £2.97 including postage! OK for use at 12V but I wouldn’t like to use it on mains yet alone up to 1000V. In fact there were some good reasons to doubt that the “CE” mark was genuine so I wasn’t entirely surprised to find an almost identical meter on the RAPEX database this week.

RAPEX is an EU “rapid alert” system where the details of potentially dangerous goods identified in one member country are made available to all the others. It aims to reduce incidents like the one shown on Fake Britain recently where a young boy was killed by a fake games console power supply.

http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/safety/rapex/alerts/main/index.cfm?event=main.weeklyOverview&web_report_id=740&selectedTabIdx=1

(reference no 35)

OK it’s not the same make (in fact it has no make on it at all) or colour but it has the same model number and is almost certainly the same type of meter.

Just to be clear I'm talking about the super cheap meter from Ebay NOT the Lidl one.
