COAXIAL cable - what length? Empty COAXIAL cable - what length?

Post by Maureen57 Sat Apr 12, 2014 7:50 pm

Very new to this Motorhome experience and loving it.  Last week went to a campsite with electric hook up AND a TV ariel socket we could use.  Obviously this will pick up a better signal than my ariel especially in some weak areas.   I am going to make my own cable to take with me, but what length do you reccommend? All you travellers that have exprience with this item know that having a cable too short would be disarsterous, but too long would be a waste.  (I know that I need 2 male connectors).  May seem a silly qustion, but thankyou for your guidance.

I would suggest possibly twice the length of the van for cable dependant of course where you enter the van with the cable.

It should be noted that a lot of sites with aerial points do not have a co-ax point at the conection point, instead they may have a BNC connection, so it would be wise to also invest in a BNC to co-ax adaptor which are readily and cheaply available.

COAXIAL cable - what length? Empty TV signal leads

At least 25m and to be sure perhaps an other 10m to join to/or use in stead, don't forget a straight female joiner and perhaps even a satellite to TV female adaptor.

I think most agree the same length as your hook up cable plus 5m to get in the van. Do you have a cable route planned from outside to the back of the TV?

Peter

THANKYOU SO MUCH for all your advice.  I really didn't think
the cable would have to be that long - I'm so glad I asked.  And the BNC coax adaptor is news to me.  Told you I was new to this!!!  Going out this week to buy 33mtrs and the appropriate fittings AND a BNC adaptor.  Thankyou everyone!!   allthumbz
