west dartmoor

Post by alanmar on Mon Aug 12, 2013 10:20 pm

We have spent around 8 years visiting this campsite, the main building is part of an old manor house with a bar and  lounge with settees  and loads of books. The site is ideal for walker as it is right on the edge of dartmoor with the top of the first tor "pewtor" being 45min walk away, loads of longer moor/tor walks as well as lower walks and pub walks some pubs being that good transport back might be needed. The facilities are very good. the owners and staff are very friendly and always helpful. Fresh eggs if they can find were the hens have laid them.

We have just returned from a trip to Cornwall and stayed at this site on the way down for 3 nights. We booked this having seen this recommendation on this forum.  I would endorse everything that has been said and just add that the Toilet/Shower block was excellent.
Large vans might have a problem on the narrow access lanes, although there were quite a few caravans on site when we were there.
The dog loved the walks on the Moor
