Scottish East coast ?

Post by Claytaa on Mon Jul 08, 2013 1:14 pm

Hi folks,
On our way next week  to the golf Open at Muirfield. Not been up to that area before. Are there any little gems that are good for a visit on that East coast of inland. Any advice welcome.

Cheers.

Hi
Have a look at Dunbar. Small town, plenty of good coffee shops, small gallery/gift shops, old fashioned sweetie shop, the runner up in the Best British Bakery Competition (their patisserie is out of this world), butcher, greengrocery etc. There is a selection of eating places to suit all budgets and tastes. Claim to fame - the birthplace of John Muir, the conservationist. There is a small museum in the house where he was born. If you are a bird watcher there is a kittiewake colony at the harbour. Leisure Centre with swimming pool is above the harbour and has plenty of parking

The CCC site is new and modern, there is also a small site near East Fortune which I have been told is good. We have not tried either as we have  a house in Dunbar. Dunbar also has a railway station and 25 minutes takes you into Edinburgh.  Or you can drive 35 minutes to a Park and Ride station at New Craighall on the outskirts of Edinburgh where there is a train every 30 minutes into the centre.

East Lothian is a lovely county with lots of interesting towns and villages, and it is drier than the west of Scotland.

Hi there,

The CC CL at East Fortune is superb and you can get satellite TV on the main site.

Worth a visit is the Avation Heritage Museum just up the road and Haddington has a few nice places to wander around.

There are almost no midges but a citronella candle for the evenings won't go amiss.look here

Enjoy!allthumbz

Best regards,
