Forward Facing Passenger Seat.

Post by Heathcliff on Sat 20 Apr - 10:11

Hi Everyone - I'm hoping that with the wealth of knowledge here someone can make my search easier.
I'm looking for a VW T4 based Clubman but it has to have forward facing rear passenger seats as my partner's 22 year old daughter gets travel sick, and the thought of sitting sideways watching the hedgerow wizz past makes me queezy just thinking about it. Is there such a thing or do I have to look for a non VW option ? Any help would be much appreciated.

As far as I know there are no monocoque Auto-Sleepers built on the VW T4 with a forward facing rear seat. The only VW based one I can think of that does have the rear seat you need is the Medallion which was built on the VW LT35 (or in fact a Mercedes base).
So it looks like you may have to go non-VW such as a Peugeot based Talisman or a Ford based Amethyst. If you forget the monocoque body then you could look at the Peugeot based Nuevo ES (extra-seat).

The Medallion looks like it would fit the bill, and I thought there were others which had the option. Here's a link to a brochure...

Or browse around some of the other info on that site...

Hi Heathcliff
You can get a T4 based VW Monocoque van with a forward rear facing seat. This was an option on the Gatcombe, or later model Clubman (approxi 2002 onwards), whuich uses the Gatcombe shell. They are around, but you will have to hunt around a bit.

Hope this helps

John

Forward Facing Passenger Seat.

Post by Heathcliff on Sat 20 Apr - 21:58

Thanks for those answers so far. It's confusing with so many model variations. I don't want to go too big as stopping off and exploring towns could cause problems with carpark spaces being too small. Front kitchens mean a nice big bed at the back and an over cab bed at the other end. But then the passenger ends up right at the back getting travel sick. There is the possibility of fitting a double front passenger seat as in many T4 vans but then you lose access from cab to the back. Thanks for the links - these provide much food for thought and much bedtime reading.

Hi Heathcliff.

The Sherbourne may fit the bill.

Thanks Steve - Just looked at the Sherbournes on fleabay and yes they are T4 based and a possibility - bit pricey though think_smiley_46
Maybe when no-ones looking I'll sneak a crafty look in 'Coachbuilts'

I fitted a FASP seat base. The seat sits about an inch higher but it is a quality mechanism and doesn't "rock" like the centre bolt types. http://www.leisurevehicleservices.com/4346/ - or Ebay

If you get one, give me a shout and I'll supply you a proper high tensile steel fitting kit.
