Roof Covers

Our Windsor spends the winter under some ash trees(!), getting a considerable amount of 'detritus' as a result. I have read that covers cause condensation but newer materials prevent/reduce this. Are they now recommended by the cognoscenti and if so, would they advise full or just roof covers and any particular manufacturer please?

the issue with covers can be the rubbing effect on windy days this can lead to damage to the paint work or grp. decals etc. I think if you were getting a cover it would have to be one taylor made to fit very snugly around the camper.

I made a lean too for our camper a few weeks ago, though still debating doing a bit more to it

Now I'm really jealous. Wish I had space for a lean-to like that. Though of course you are now going to be tempted to add a side and end to it, and end up with something a lot more like a garage than a lean-to!

I'd agree that covers can cause significant abrasion damage, having bought a car a few years back that had sat under covers for 6 months, and found that they had worn through the paintwork at several corners simply due to the wind movement. The dilemma there is getting something soft and light enough not to cause damage, yet strong enough to withstand gale force winds...

I have a notion of closing in maybe 30% down from the roof on the open side. End wise hmmm not sure had thoughts of a tarp on the end the van is facing as thats the direction we get the weather in the winter and also the open side. The sun being low in the winter is hid by the garage so no issues there. Closing in the whole thing would be a bad idea cause unless a garage is totally warm and dry it harbours damp. The wind flowing through the lean to keeps the van dry yet shelters it, well thats the idea so far anyways.

That sounds like a good way to go - it will keep even semi-horizontal rain off most of the van.

And I agree about the problems of fully enclosing it. I run a dehumidifier in my garage to counter the damp problem, but that's not for my van, as sadly it wont fit under the door!
