Internal security device

I thought this might be useful to members as it claims to fit Talisman and Clubman models

You got it in 2 Paul, we had them both on the Executive.

There are a number of options for the cab doors some cheaper than others but the red thingy for the habitation door really is good

A very cheap and totally effective device is the tried and tested chain looped through the door arm rests and steering wheel and secured with a padlock. At night time just loop the hasp through the ends of the chain and the padlock's weight will keep all in place enabling removal in seconds in an emergency.
When you park up in the daytime eg. at a supermarket there is a visible deterrent for would be 'wronguns' to deter them from removing or smashing a window to open the doors. Fit a Fiamma habitation door lock or handle lock to the habitation door and leave the van by this door - physical security is hard to beat.
You can increase the effectiveness of the lock and chain by fitting an Alarm Padlock - we have used this system for many years now.
This old tip is used a lot by continental travellers.
Baz Wellard issued a Facts Sheet some time ago with a novel idea utilising the front seat belts looped through the arm rests - good - but not as effective as the chain as a 'stanley' knife can remove a front quarter light in seconds a slash the seat belts, but its an option and any precaution is going to buy time and perhaps prevention from the attentions of a 'chancer'.

I like the idea with the Peugeot cab door catch. However now we have seen it I have no doubt Modelman will produces his version costing only a pound or two that is just as good.

Fifteen quid starting bid for two bits of plastic?, or even alloy, plus another four quid postage which make it nineteen! You'd be hard pressed not to make your own cheaper.
Not surprised that its bankrupt stock if someone was trying to flog 'em for £36 - nobody's that gullible are they?

First of all the post at the beginning of this thread is over 12 months old, although I did ressurrect (that spelling doesn't look right) the habitation door lock bit a few weeks ago as I noticed that the seller was advertising again and someone on here had contacted them last year to see if any were still around and was told no more available.
As regards the cab locks that slide over the buttons, I have a pair of these that I picked up off Ebay over 2 years ago (dirt cheap compared to the price in that listing above) and have never got round to fitting. If you like I can send you photos if you want to construct your own version. Incidently these are also on sale again on Ebay..

Sleep secure? It's not a problem on "Petal"!

With all doors locked, the two front seats pushed forward as far as they will go, a bed made up alongside the sliding door and a bike-rack/tow-bar/curtain arrangement to negotiate on the back door I think we would both be wide awake before anyone managed to get inside.

I have been checking the price of some of the security devices on offer and I have to say that this is one of the most effective and cheapest on the market.

It needs no batteries or electrical kook-up and it makes a distinctive "bong-bong" noise when it is activated!

Lol had one of them in my last van for 9years its now in my new van its still in the packet if you carry one make sure you keep a ball with it or you can get done for carrying a weapon.

Very simple, if your seat does not have the necessary holes it is not difficult to drill them and the reversed seat obstructs access

I know some post are a bit tongue in cheek BUT! If you are unlucky and HAVE to hit someone even inside your van, with a baseball bat,you WILL be done for it!!!! after all it's not fair to hit a defenceless burglar

I carry a long black metal maglight which hold 4 btys and is dual purpose;

1. it blinds the intruder
2 doesn't have make a dent in his/her head
My son is a traffic Cop and says that will be accepted but a baseball bat UMMMM

With regard to the above:

1. I DO NOT CARE if I maim a "defenceless burglar" who is threatening me or mine; even if I do subsequently get "done" for it.

2. I WILL NOT let anyone intimidate me with threats; in particular those who threaten me with incarceration if I vigorously defend myself.

3. I will ALWAYS try to avoid trouble in my attempt to NEVER become a "victim".

If you look back through the history of Britain you will see that the police service was introduced as a "consensual" service (i.e. with the consent of the general public) and it was introduced with the promise that the police would protect the general public; consequently, the carrying of weapons for personal protection was no longer required.

At the time of Robert Peel almost EVERY person carried a weapon. Such weapons usually being selected from pistol, sword, sword-stick, dagger, stick, cudgel, knuckle-dusters etc. (Best demonstrated in Conan Doyle's "Sherlock Holmes" where even Doctor Watson carries a gun and occasionally uses it to deal with offenders!)

My attitude is quite simple. If the police cannot fulfil their basic duties and protect me I will protect myself; and I see nothing wrong in that.

Knowing that sevel door locks are made basically of cheese and easy to access, we have linked some wire through the doors and linked in the middle - good idea where the open padlock just drops in. Based on the assumption that most defences will buy some time and not deter the professional our alternative is an extra passenger which is a great deterrent. 40 kilos of GSD/Rottie cross

SHE is mortally insulted now ............. quite right though. Big girl - easily the nicest foster dog we have ever had (several times.....).

Its those big eyes saying "can I have a piece off your biscuit, pleaseee"

I keep a "crook lock" in my car for just such emergencies. It has never been used in anger as with both the alarm and immobiliser I have never felt the need. It also doubles up as a handy place for my wife to hang her handbag.
