Crystop AutoSat Light v2 Empty Crystop AutoSat Light v2

Post by orian 4th December 2011, 15:10

After several frustrating years with various manual satellite dishes I have decided that after Christmas I am having the Crystop AutoSat Light v2 fitted to my van. It seems the only choice as I already have a 65w solar panel on the roof and therefore limited room. The Crystop appears to need very little space in which to work.

Has anyone got this system or have any knowledge of it.

Here are the details: http://www.lcsleisure.co.uk/acatalog/info_SAT047.html

Hi Brian,

It is the only satellite system that will fit along side my solar panel. I was hoping to find a review myself, hence the post.

Good luck for Friday. up!

Hi again Bob,

I have fitted a large solar panel to our 'Clubman's roof rack, but still have room for a sat unit behind (as Modelman has fitted so well up! )

So using you as a 'Guinea-pig' Mate hugegrins ..... be interested to see how you get on with the coverage 'footprint'

Thank's for the good wishes allthumbz

Hi Brian,

Whatever you decide to buy I strongly recommend you purchase at one of the shows. I saved over 20% by placing my order at the NEC and I deferred the fitting until early January. allthumbz

I will let you know what I think of it but I won't be going south of Dover before June next year. sun

Hi Brian,

The nearest to you is the Excel show in February but I don't know who will have a stand there.

There are 2 versions of the Crystop; the one I am having fitted has a closed height of 20cm but there is a another version : http://www.lcsleisure.co.uk/acatalog/info_SAT048.html
that is 11cm high. Unfortunately I do not have the space for this version.

Thanks Bob,

I will not give a penny to the dreaded LEZ conmen (Stuff em !!) but there are plenty of other shows (we use to enjoy them, as i have said in a previous post, so in retirement ...... the sky's the limit (pun) allthumbz )

Post by Dutto 7th December 2011, 19:38

Hi there,

Not familiar with the model mentioned but we are sat in Marbella with a "square" Oyster Caro and still getting Astra 1, Astra 2 and Hotbird with sufficient strength for Sky and BBC News channels.

We lost the other Freesat channels after we entered Spain but at Narbonne (which is about as far south as you can get in France) we had everything; even "Deal or No Deal" (for which I may take out a contract on the man that told us we would lose everything "south of Paris"!).

Good viewing whatever you get.

Best regards,
drinksallround

Hi Dutto,

It is good to hear your Caro is working fine.

And I thought it was the attraction of the better weather that drove you South, not the failure to receive a certain TV programme. Sounds like you got a good deal. hugegrins

Hi Bob

This sounds like the sort of system I would like to put on my Symbol. Most of the automated satellite systems we have are either too big, or too expensive to justify the cost.

Like you I have a 65W solar panel mounted at the right rear, which, along with the large Heki and the two other hatches limits where I can place an automated system.

I have removed the English UHF aerial as it is no use in NZ and I use a temporary manual dish in its place which works, provided the wind is not too strong. I would like to fit a permanent compact system in its place.

I will be interested in your review of the system and to see any photos of its placement.

You are right about the shows as this is where you can pick up good specials.

Hi Keith,

Your roof layout including the 65w solar panel sounds identical to mine. allthumbz

I hope to have the planar dish fitted behind the toilet roof light and wired to the controller and satellite receiver in the wardrobe.

The installer is confident the roof will support the extra weight as it will be close to the corner of the roof which is stronger.

Hi Bob,
We have that system fitted, don't know how I missed your post, works well for us, have a zhender free to air box fitted, only failed to work twice, both time in very heavy rain and extreemly cloudy skies.

Bought it to use abroad two years ago, but due to poor health, not managed to leave the country since we have had it fitted. we were told it will work in central europe, but the further you go, you will rely on the world service for news & english films with foreign sub titles.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for your reply. I was beginning to think I would be the only person with this system and your comments are reassuring. allthumbz

As with any system the signal deteriorates as you travel south but the installers are usually very careful about what they promise in the realms of reception. I have found with my suitcase system and also Multimo that reception as far as the Dordogne is quite good. With the Crystop system you have several satellites to choose from assuming you know what these foreign stations are talking about. scratch head

Hi Bob,
I'm 55 and never had satelitte before and it was a sharp learning curve for me.
There are 4 or 5 sat's to choose from, but as I said,we have not been able to go abroad for a couple of years and maybe a couple more the way it's going winks

One thing i did learn, when you start the engine with the dish up, it parks itself, what I didn't realise is, the search box, reverts to astra 1, spent two days getting very little in they way of t.v. decided to read the instructions in the end (we never learn do we ?.)

I am posting 2 pictures of my new satellite TV system as requested. The first shows the planar dish retracted (looks like an aerofoil for a boy racer biggrin ) and the second raised.

Crystop AutoSat Light v2 Photo0348

Crystop AutoSat Light v2 Photo0347

So far I am very pleased with the system. We stayed on 2 sites where it was impossible to watch any channels on terrestrial TV but the satellite system was perfect. up!

I even tried it on a motorway service area next to trees and yet again it was superb. allthumbz

It usually locks onto the satellite within 60 seconds. I cannot tell how it will work in France although the installer said they had tested it successfully on the French/Spanish border.

You will have to wait until July before I can comment on that.

Hi pete,

Yes so far I am impressed. Where I live we are surrounded by tall oak trees and I could not get a signal with a portable system even after 2 hours of playing with it. tap_fingers

When we had satellite TV installed in the home, the installer had to place the dish on a pole above the roof and use a meter to gain a signal between the trees.

I parked my motorhome on the drive and pressed the satellite button not expecting a result. After less than one minute it had locked onto Astra 2 and I had rock steady reception. allthumbz

Crystop AutoSat Light v2 Empty Crystop System

Post by Lancslad 14th September 2012, 17:02

Wondered how you are getting on with your Crystop system.I have a 2011 Symbol and a redundant Crystop system from our previous van,a larger Autocruise Tempo. It is the FU version which is lower but has a larger operating diameter.I may consider seeing if I can get the FO dish to go with the controller and freesat box that I already have. One potential problem is I have a dometic air con unit fitted on the roof. What space is needed for the FO system? I have a squarish area of approx 22" across x 20" length. Also how far away is the base from your toilet roof light, and where have you fitted the sat controller and freesat box? Many thanks, Lancslad

In summary I am very pleased with the results, sometimes getting a signal where I thought trees would prevent it. However, as you would expect it can't see over very tall trees. hugegrins
I would have preferred the FU version as it is lower but there was insufficient room on my Symbol mainly because I have a 65w solar panel in the area above the fridge. My FO is fitted behind the toilet roof light and at certain angles I need to close the rooflight whilst the satellite searches as it could foul the edge of the dish. There is not a great deal of space as the edge of the roof is curved.

For details of sizes try this link http://lcsleisure.co.uk/acatalog/Clam_Satellite_Systems.html
Click on more info. If you still want measurements from the roof of my vehicle let me know and I will try to do it this weekend.

Finally, the sat controller and freesat box are fitted to the right hand inside wall of the wardrobe. I had my TV repositioned from the cab to the wardrobe wall above the single seat. The wiring comes through the roof above the wardrobe and down the right hand side with a lead passing throught the gas locker to provide the shut down of the satellite if I try to drive away with it up. Let me know if I can help further. up!

Hi Lancslad,

I have just been up the ladder (for all the comedians on here, yes, at my age snigger ) and the distances are as follows:

Edge of bathroom rooflight to edge of base of satellite unit = 16cms

Edge of base of satellite unit to edge of roof (nearside) = 15cms.

Does that help?
