Thetford Waste Tank Caps

Post by scrumpyjack14 on Wed Aug 22, 2012 3:32 pm

Bit of a random question... smile!

We decided to replace the Porta Potti in our Trident - new 335 ordered and arrived all great.

However, all the other Thetford toilets I have used (albeit 'built-in' ones rather than Porta Pottis) have had a measuring 'function' built into thje waste tank cap. This is so useful for measuring out the chem when emptying/priming the tank. The Porta Potti (new one or old) don't have this - but I can't see any reason why I can't buy a different waste tank cap off ebay (loads of them on there) with the measuring marks.

For instance: Measuring Cap

So - my question is: are all Thetford tank caps interchangable? I.e. do they use the same threads?

Thanks,
Steve

Thetford tank caps

Post by murph on Wed Aug 22, 2012 3:56 pm

Hi Steve,
I dont know about tank caps, but you can get small containers (500ml) of Thetford liquid which has measure marks on the side, once you have used the liquid in it you can use it to measure any liquid of your choice, even bio wash liquid, and these things take up very little space.

Steve, you're worrying too much.
A decent 'glug' of the cheapest bio washing liquid you can buy is all that is required.
If you are still worried.....apply two 'glugs'!

Glug (a technical term), approximately the liquid equivalent of a 'dollop'.

Save yourself a small fortune and know you can 'dump'(sorry, couldn't resist it) safely in any loo/cess pit.

Steve,

Even better, Lidl sell bio laundry liquid in small sachets at 20 for about £3.50. Just drop one into the loo after emptying!

Best regards,

Cheap bio sachet is the way to go. Bought some in fffrance in May - 'lavender and chamomile' - it said. Dunno about that; but emptying it creates an interesting set of experiences....

bio wash sachets

Post by murph on Thu Aug 23, 2012 8:00 am

Hi All,
When I run out of my present chemical I intend to try bio washing liquid, and the sachets seem the way to go. I will be visiting Lidl on our next tripin September.

toilet fluid

Post by Betsy on Fri Sep 14, 2012 9:17 pm

Are you saying that I can use bio washing liquid instead of toilet fluid? If so do you mean the type for washing clothes or dishes?
Any advantages ? Does it work the same or better? what's it like in cold weather --- any different? I presume it's cheaper.

Betsy,

We have been using bio laundry liquid for about a year now. In Germany (and on a few CL's in the UK with septic tanks) they won't allow you to use anything else.

For convenience (and cost) we use "Formil" bio-sachets for the toilet cassette and "Formil" bio-concentrate for the flush water (bottle fits into the locker I dose it with half a cap full mixed in an old water bottle every other flush tank re-fill). Both from Lidl. (Just be careful. They do a "Formil" non-bio!!)

We have had no problems even in hot places like Spain and France.

Is it better? Well, the "pink" liquid provided by Thetford produced a horrible gunny black slime and since we managed to get rid of it (using bleach) and switched to bio-laundry liquid we have had no problems.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Ian
