Top Lodge Caravan Club Site

We arrived at Top Lodge Caravan Club Site near Stamford– what a beautiful site, well kept and a warm welcome from the wardens. up!

Entrance to Top Lodge

There are 85 pitches of which 35 are hard standing. The hard standing pitches are spacious with a strip of grass between all, adding to the privacy factor. The pitches are well kept as are the service point area.

Views of the Pitches

This site has no toilet or shower facilities so saving a substantial sum on site fees. There is an Information Shed consisting of leaflets with places to eat, visit and explore. The reception has a few essentials - milk etc but your not far from the local shops so its no problem. The dog walk walkies which leads into the adjacent woods, is shaded – just as well in the hot weather we had! sun – and being amongst the trees is cool as well.

Reception and Information Shed.

Adjoining the site is Top Lodge Visitors Centre which incorporates “Fineshade Woods”, where you can hire a bike - manual or electric – to explore but is quite expensive IMO. Spread throughout the Woods there are 6 or 7 “skills” section to enhance your mountain bike ability. cycle We didn’t attempt these as we walked around the routes lets_dance . These walk ways varying from 1hr to 3hrs for varying abilities- one route is on the flat so ideal for the less mobile or for pushing push chairs or wheel chairs.

Throughout the Woods there are signposts to direct you
– the orange route - Smelters Walk – tracing 3000 years if woodland history with history information boards along the route to inform you of times gone.
– the purple route – Dales Wood Walk –takes you past a hide.
– the blue route (the longest of them all) looking at views over Rockingham Forrest.

After completing your walk/ride stop off for a bite to eat or just a drink in the reasonable priced café at the Centre. coffee_drink

This Caravan Club site is close to Stamford which is well worth a visit. There are plenty of shops and historical charm, with many lovely stone medieval buildings, several churches and the historical iron Albert bridge which is a short walk along the riverside. allthumbz
