riverside campsite Betws y coed

Post by bonnie on Sat Aug 11, 2012 7:16 pm

Have just spent 2 nights here. We feared it might be a bit of a holiday camp atmosphere with lots of noisy kids, but it was excellent. There were some children, but well behaved. Mostly middle aged couples with well behaved dogs (like us). Excellent facilities. Friendly staff. Not much in the campsite shop, - there are lots of camping accessories, but little food. But then the town is only a couple of minutes' walk. Nice large flat hardstanding pitches with electric and TV hookup, and a bit of grass to both sides and to the rear of each pitch. Dog walk along the river. Quite pricey at £26 per night. (small discount for Caravan club members). It is usually fully booked, but we managed to get a cancellation. Even if the website says there are no places, it is worth a phone call. We have stayed before at a smaller site about 30 mins walk from the town. Riverside is a couple of minutes walk into town, where there are shops and places to eat. The "Royal Oak" has a large outdoor eating area, so good for dog owners. Many walks start from the town, so good for motorhome owners who don't want to uproot and drive from the campsite to start a walk. We would definately go again if we could get in. We tend not to plan in advance, but like to make up our minds to go somewhere at a couple of days' notice, so we were lucky this time - and the weather was fantastic - not guaranteed of course.
