Auto-Sleeper Talent (Petrol) WANTED Empty Auto-Sleeper Talent (Petrol) WANTED

Post by Tall Man with Glasses on Thu Jul 04, 2019 3:07 pm

I've been keeping my eyes open, but am having no luck finding a suitable candidate. Preferably not too far from London, but will travel for the right one. Any advice/help gratefully received :)

Unfortunately you're looking for a rare engine version of a rare van! Unless you're happy to have one that's over 25 years old, almost all will be diesel.

It might be worth asking A/S how many of that variant (if any) they exported to Japan. If they exported many, the later ones may be coming back still, and will definitely be petrol. Only downside is that they will all be autos, I would think, which makes them relatively expensive to run...

...there was a petrol Talent on "Preloved" web site today, but it's down in Devon, so a long way from you.

Thank you to everyone for the replies. As for the two vehicles pointed out, does anyone have a view on the prices? I feel the Talent is a little expensive. Also, does anyone have any experiences with JMT? Are they a good dealer to buy from?

That's simply the way the secondhand market is. A/S conversions keep their value quite well anyway, and the VW-based van conversions more so than some others. When it comes to 20+ year old models, the price should depend more on condition than anything else.

Don't be fooled by a nice shiny outside - either get a very close look underneath or pay someone else to. T4s are pretty good for that era or van manufacture, but they can still go badly underneath - especially if they have lived at the seaside!

Apologies for all the questions, but does anyone have a view on the Mercedes Autosleeper Montana? I’ve seen a couple for sale for several weeks and was wondering if they were to be avoided or whether it’s simply VW are more popular.
