It certainly has Leighton. We appear to have lost some long-standing and very knowledgeable members.

I agree Paul, I think it lacks something now, we definitely don't seem to have so many interesting topics anymore.

I wish those members would come back.wave

Thanks Paul, that's what I guessed. I'm glad you and Peter are back but I still await the return of Dave (Gromit).

You all offered so much, together with the few who left the forum.

Peter, you and I don't always agree but from these disagreements if you or anyone else gives me a better argument, I sit back and learn from it. That is what the forum does for me and have learnt so much from it.

I sometimes post something I know will generate a chat by possibly being a little contoversial. I try to do this as subtly as possible when the forum seems to be asleep.gimmefive

Peter, I wouldn't worry about what you post, otherwise it's a pointless excercise. Just lets get back to what this forum was best at, otherwise it will deteriorate further.

Hi Peter, that's sad , I really missed what the whole nasty episode was about ,thankfully!  Please go back to the old Peter, who in my opinion was exceptional with advice ,especially on electrical problems!Hopefully in time the forum will regain itself to be the really good thing that it once was!     Kind regards Paul wave

There are roughly 7500 listed members, it is a pretty sorry state of affairs if a forum is lacking because a handful of members, albeit senior members have left. There are no problems only opportunities so if the remaining members want pezzazz now is the chance to inject it.

( I too was especially sorry to see one individual leave and contemplated calling it a day myself but CC and the new chiefs deserve the support of the Indians surely)

A motorcycle club I'm a member of has averaged approximately 3000 members for the last 30 years, however only about 10% of those ever turn up at national club events or regional branch monthly meetings. Even less, maybe 100 out of the 3000 ever post on the club forum, usually when they're seeking the answer to a problem.
Out of that 100, maybe 25 to 30 are regular posters.
So over time it's got very cliquey, which means new members, after introducing themselves, seldom put their head above the parapet again as they're not part of the inner circle who are 'in the know'..

I think this forum follows Al's forum closely. We probably have no more than a couple of hundred regular posters, if that. Out of the 7500 registered members there are probably a couple of thousand that have never posted at all. If you spend time looking at the 'membership' list you will find dozens of pages of members with no listed motorhome and no posts at all.
New chiefs? Roli and CC are the only moderators.

Re: Forum Pezzazz

Post by Cymro on Tue Feb 26, 2019 10:26 pm

I'm not sure that I agree with the premise to this thread: that the Forum has lost "pezzazz".

It is always the case that - for the interests of an individual member - the number of threads which will be considered interesting will vary over time. Sometimes I'll find a few hot (for me - but not necessarily for you ) topics running concurrently; at othertimes, threads won't interest me.  It must surely be subjective: what I find relevant, you may not. And vice versa. And thus, for me, I currently find plenty of interest, and plenty of things to learn.

Sure, I miss Gromit's wonderful practical solutions, and his sense of houmour. But I'm sure he'd agree that the Forum's strength is the combined experience and expertise of all the contributing Members, be they old hands or welcome newcomers. It's the latter who will make or break this Forum.

I’ve not done a proper survey but I think the members of this forum are mostly men. This tends to influence the topics introduced and the answers given

A MH forum I used to belong to had a much more evenly balanced membership and became comfortably social in character rather than purely technical. It felt like a group of friends.

The vibes I get from this forum is that the active members would prefer the status quo. Inevitably that limits the social side of things and can give a message that it is not a place to go to discuss non- motorhome or loosely related motorhome topics.

Hi Quilter, you have a valid point, maybe other sections could be introduced on the forum for that very reason. This is a very sociable pastime and the forum should perhaps reflect that and not be all about the technical side.

Maybe you should appeal to Admin to make it an all inclusive forum. One forum has so many headings, it is possible to find almost anything one could want.

Leighton.

There is already two sections which are non-motorhome related - the Fun Chat and General Discussion sections, just needs people to start something.

Re: Forum Pezzazz

Post by Askit on Wed Feb 27, 2019 9:42 am

I'm more or less in accord with Cymro and Quilter on this, although it should be said that the "community" section of the forum does allow for the opportunity to discuss non-motorhome issues.

I don't think you could overestimate the importance of this forum as a resource for both seasoned and new campers. When we started motorhoming, we joined this and one other forum and the advice and guidance we received (and continue to receive) was invaluable. It's reassuring to know that practical help is available, should we need it.The 10% contributor, 40% reader and 50% missing, rate seems to apply to just about every forum I've been involved with, it's just how it is.

There's no point pretending that nothing happened, or that the forum has not been impacted, but let's stop reopening old wounds. We can (and should), however, move on. There has to be scope for differences of opinion without recourse to unpleasantness, IMHO it is the capacity of forum members to do this that separates it from the others. Again it's my opinion, but the best kind of moderation on a forum is that practiced by the contributors in making their posts.

Sorry Askit, but this thread is not about advice and guidance or about opening old wounds. The first, long may it continue,  the second I hope never happens again. You have read how that has affected Peter.

My point is, the forum in my opinion, has got a different feel to it now, than when I first joined in 2015. I still stand by what I said, I think it has lost it's Pezzazz. The percentage make up of the forum is still the same, but I now find it less interesting than it once was.

Leighton, fair enough and my apologies if I missed the point.. My post was following on from the others in the thread that suggest there have been recent changes to the forum because of who is posting and what members will post.
