As a Newbie I did think it best to stay away from this thread....but it’s my birthday and I’ve just got home from a pub/wine lunch!!!
All I can say is that jetty says it exactly the way I’ve found it.

Same here. In fact the issue is becoming a big turn off.

Happy Birthday. peace

Thank you Don.

Very correct, try having a birthday on the very day everyone goes back to work after 2 weeks of drinking and eating themselves to the point of bursting!
My 86 year old mum reminds me every year that I was 3 weeks late so it’s my own blooming fault!

To go even further off topic, happy birthday from a sweltering New Zealand. This is why my posts appear to be typed in the middle of the night, we're 13 hours ahead of the UK.
I won't be putting up any pictures of me cooling off with a beer in the pool...

That thread is a perfect example of how ambiguous the intent behind a forum post can be.

If the same conversation had happened in a pub, the first reply could either have been made in mock/joke indignation, or real indignation - and everyone present would know immediately which it was.

But on a forum, you can't ~really~ tell, either way.

Obviously it's safest if you try to assume that the poster has the nicest of motives in their reply, and only react if you can't possibly find a nice or humorous one. But I admit that sometimes that's difficult (having been guilty of many a hasty reply myself in the past!).

On one of the countless courses I attended during a career in local govt we learned of the ambiguity of ‘jokes’ written in emails and texts. What was often intended to be a smart funny comment could be misunderstood without the facial expression and emphasis of a face to face chat. Seems they were right after all.

My birthday is 28th December, innocents day  confused3, you have to feel sorry for Jesus though his birthday is every Christmas Day, maybe if he had an official birthday like the Queen it would be a good idea.

Just off to enjoy some clique and salad for lunch.... oh sorry I meant quiche.

I have never met anyone from this forum and only spoken on the phone to one member when I sold him something so obviously not part of the inner circle, nobody loves me...  frustrating fedup

I was very interested to read Harry's comment regarding 'smart funny comments' not actually being either of the above as I have been guilty of exactly that and wonder why nobody appreciates my sparkling wit.
Well Groundhog I think you have unwittingly proved the rule ( unless you were being deliberately ironic ). The first paragraph is surely offensive to a large proportion of the population (yes I know it's meant to be funny) and the second paragraph is meant to be funny but just isn't.

If I am going to feel sorry for Jesus, it would be about being nailed to a piece of wood on top of a hill, rather than his birth date.

Its remembering the massacre of the children by King Herod, with his plan of "I dont know which the baby Jesus is so I'll just kill all the children".

When I have asked for advice on this forum many members have answered all with different ideas, this is exactly why I asked the question in the first place. As I see it, it is up to me to decide if I agree with any of the advice /ideas given by the forum member. I have noticed that very often it is the same people giving the advice, usually a moderator. It is often a case of who has the time to spend on the forum and how much experience they have.

I for one think that this excellent forum is full of helpful advice given freely in the correct spirit. Long may it continue.

Post by AllaFEvans on Fri Jan 04, 2019 7:19 pm

It was our website that was claimed to contain 'wrong' information, even though that false claim was not backed up with any intelligent evidence.

It was me that was attacked on a personal level'

If was me where one moderator, who freely admits he has little technical knowledge on the subject, decided to step in and tell everyone that Peter is correct because he talks to AS and I don't!!!.

It was also me that was denied a chance to defend myself by several moderators stepping in and one then closing the thread to prevent any further embarrassment to both Peter and the moderators concerned.

So, as the person at the centre of it all, Please may I ask that Christmas spirit comes to the fore in this New Year and helps people be generous in their outlook, even if it isn't deserved, and end any more conversation on this thread?

Hopefully the Second Battery thread has been a lesson for many, leading to changes and improvements in 2019?
Let's hope so, but can we drop it now, please?
