Leaving The forum Empty Leaving The forum

Post by biffobear on Mon Dec 31, 2018 3:34 pm

I have just read the full post and thread originally posted by HH66 on the subject of a second leisure battery in which I provided a link to aandncaravans like so many others trying to help an honest enquiry.   This is not a forum I want or need to be a member of any more.  Outrageous!

It's New Year's Eve.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days o’ lang syne!

Move on Biffo, don't dwell in the past. One spat does not a Forum break.

Why do I get the feeling that there is a clique on this forum?

Happy New Year - Sorry wrong thread but I'll carry on anyway.

Woke up with a cold (not hungover I've given up booze) so instead of going for a walk in the sun I decided to read all the 'battery' thread.

I didn't have the usual family rows this year but it seems my 'virtual family' has had one instead. But like real families lets come together and enjoy each others company again wave

up!
Glad you’ve noticed. Biffo was a reasonable poster, he certainly had more to add to the forum than some of the sarcy posters that crawl out of the woodwork with nothing positive to add.
I just wish people on here would type in the same manner as they would talk, face to face. Oh, and a Happy New Year to all look here

Cliques occur on all forums and in all clubs. It happens because people who have been members for a while know each other so infrequent or new posters feel they are not welcome. Have you ever rallied with the Caravan Club? All the ralliers appear to know each other so a new rallier can feel left out. It happens, but nothing intentional.

Sorry, but you are wishing for something that will never happen. Face-to-face conversations are full of unspoken hints, including variations in voice inflection, facial expressions and body language.

You cannot get that on a forum, so you need to assume a greater natural level of misunderstanding. If you make that assumption and try to view each "conversation" from both (or all) sides you will understand how minor disagreements can flare up so easily.

A forum also allows people to make non-conforming comments with less fear of retribution. Although that has the downside of leading to more conflict, it has the upside that lateral thinking is more likely to happen than in face-to-face conversations.

In my opinion you are wasting your time trying to make a forum behave like a group of people sitting round a table. You just need to take a forum's good bits and ignore all the dross.

TDo you think this is the first forum I have been involved with?
I am a member of numerous forums on a wide variety of subjects and I understand perfectly well, without any misplaced advice, how they work! However, this is probably the most cliquey & bitchy forum of them all.

I’m not trying to make anyone behave in any other manner than show a bit of respect instead of hiding behind their keyboards, dishing out sarcy comments.
I’ve had a couple of the clique on here type at me BUT when asked to explain themselves, they soon crawl back under their stones.

So... you're seriously saying that you haven't yet noticed that we are all behind a keyboard here?

Your last post makes it obvious that you're just trying to wind people up, so I'm disappointed to see that you don't intend to leave.

But if you don't, it won't worry me.

So you think that saying 'jog on son ' is being respectful?

You used the expression twice - once was perhaps a knee-jerk response,  twice is unacceptable

It wasn't said in jest!

He has already said that he is getting rid of his A/S and buying a Carthago. He comes onto a thread entitled "leaving the forum" and says that "this is probably the most cliquey & bitchy forum of them all", and then proceeds to take offence at what I said to him in my first post in this thread - none of which was offensive.

So I can't see why he wants to remain. I would be more than happy to see him leave, given the above.

But, as I've already said, if he decides to stay, I'm sure I'll get over it.

I suggest that the forum rules and etiquette section should be adhered to. We should not lose posters, whether any  posts are deemed welcome/useful  or not.
I have learned so much over the past nine months and have not felt offended by any individual nor had any worries about/recognition of so called cliques.
I look forward to the forum continuing to deliver what I feel it does so well.

Can I endorse the above sentiment.  Please don't spoil what is usually a very interesting, informative and at times amusing forum.

Well yes, I would like a Carthago, but I'm not judging anyone because they are getting a better van than mine - even though they are getting a better van than mine.

I'm not constantly extolling the virtues of B1lb0s, but I do think they occupy a part of the market that A/S have more or less left, and they do it very well.

The thing I can't understand about a forum member whose posts have turned almost entirely negative and confrontational since before Christmas is this: what do they expect to get out of it, other than negativity and confrontation?

That is the reason why I'm unequivocal in saying that I would be happy if the person in question chooses to leave the forum.

All I can say is that jetty says it exactly the way I’ve found it.
