Rules for selling

Post by Paulmold on Sun Oct 14, 2018 8:03 pm

Having had two adverts put on today as first posts from new members, it seems they are not reading the rules. We are not a place for free advertising. This is the rule....

Rules:

• Please DO NOT join this site to just post in the Classifieds Section! Any members who post in the classifieds section, who have
not introduced themselves first, or are not active on the forum will have their entry removed

HI Paul

I"m very sorry for that, I didn't read the rules.  I hope to be able to advertise once I"ve introduced myself.

How many post do I need to do to send a PM?

Kind regards

In my own personal opinion I see no harm with people advertising their vans on here as long as they act like members and not dealers. I get annoyed when i see these adverts with no substance and no pictures or prices. They are lazy fishing expeditions that are mostly not even serious. They are mostly designed to get the seller an is=dea of what their vans are worth and no more.

The rules should state that if you are to advertise o this site, you need to have pics, info and a price displayed in the advert and nothing less. This will stop the dealers and people only wanting PM,s and allow us all to see a truthful advert. These ''Im thinking of doing this and that and you should pm me'' adverts are daft and not in the spirit of the forum.

You've missed the point Sam.

How can using a first post as an advert be considered "acting like members" when they have previously contributed nothing to the forum?

Most members give as well as take. This rule is to discourage the "takers" from simply making use of the forum for their own ends by getting a free advert.

I know a number of members enthusiastically follow the forum but hardly, if ever post. However, I think they would be the first to agree that it's a bit of a cheek to contribute nothing until they might want to make use of the free advertising.

Heartly agree , I think it is also a cheek, and not fair on genuine members or good manners. .I despair at times at the selfishness of some.

I actually understood the point and agreed with it. My submission was more of a caveat.

As a newcomer to the forum, I’d like to say I think you’ve got it just right. I read the rules (confused0) and understood what I could and could not do.

The whole purpose of a forum, in my eyes, is to get people chatting and sharing their experiences while helping each other and your rules encourage this. Another forum I was involved in allows newbies to advertise and ask for technical advice from the start. A lot of those posters are never seen again, not even to acknowledge the help given. It’s plain rude as well as frustrating to other members.

Well done, ASOF. allthumbz

This make me think of last year when i was in Nortumberland I briefly crossed the border into Scotland, literally for a few hours. I needed cash so went to a hole in the wall not expecting £50 in Scottish notes. I quickly went into the bakers to spend some and get proper......oops ......change, and some kindly cashier in the Coop changed up most of the rest. I gather it's not uncommon. Yes I know it's legal tender but have you ever tried using it?  I could I guess changed it at Kings Cross!

I would love to give you a story of indignation about having someone refusing to take Scottish notes but it’s never happened to me. Occasional odd looks (but that’s at just me content) and once or twice staff have sought guidance from a colleague but  never had a refusal in any part of the UK.

I am always careful to make sure the ink is dry before setting off though   Whistle1

Actually Tony in truth my experience. Just the odd quizzical look but rejection is always a  possibility. I went to a cash machine in Padstow a couple of weeks ago. I dispensed £50 notes! I avoid them totally. Only used by drug dealers and for money laundering.

I can't see why some have this aversion to £50 notes, after all, they're only worth what a £20 note was 25 years or so ago, and I don't remember anyone avoiding those notes then. I was paid £4,000 for a motorbike a few months ago, all in £50 notes. I had no trouble at all spending them...

A lot of small shops won't accept £50 notes in case they're forgeries. For small purchases it takes all the shops change and if forged of course they lose not only the change but also the goods. Not forgetting that Scotland also has the £100 note , not that I've seen many of those.

We collected a few Manx notes last month but made sure we used them before sailing back just in case.

We've found in the past that it becomes more difficult to use Scottish notes the further south we travel from the Border.

I was in Leek some years ago and went into a motor shop to buy a set of hubcaps after mine were stolen. They wouldnt accept a £50 note so I went to the bank and bought bags of 10p pieces and returned to the shop with them. They couldnt refuse my purchase so i got my own back in a weird and uncalled for way.

Provided the hubcaps were less than £5, they couldn't refuse. Above that amount they could.
