Motorhome under 18 feet

Post by Pwag20 on Tue Jun 12, 2018 1:55 pm

I’m looking in the South East ideally for a Motorhome which will fit on my 5700mm drive so know that restricts my choice somewhat. I also need a 4 berth with 4 travelling seats.

I would rather something newer than 2004 and budget is around £20 - £25k.

My preferred base vehicle would be VW. Again I know that limits my options so this isn’t essential.

Anything out there....?

Yours hopefully

Yes, thanks.  I think this is all I could get that’s meets my criteria. I looked at one locally at the weekend but it had too many ‘issues’ which was a shame as I do really like them

Only one you are  going to get on a VW IS A Clubman or Gatcombe, under 6 metres, well built up until 2004.

At the end of the day what is on the number plate is neither here nor there, it is the condition , a 2005/6 /7 / 8 /9   could be in a worse condition than a 2003, have seen a few of those, That is why I have te years I do have.

It depends whether the reg is more important to you?  newer doesn`t mean better in some cases.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Best regards,
Marg

Unfortunately S.E. is not over run with dealers. We spent one weekend crossing the Penines to buy our second van. When we bought our brand new Nuevo we went to a dealer near Eastbourne. They were brilliant until they got our money, at which point my opinion of them plummeted.

Just in case there are several dealers near Eastbourne, I don't want to belittle them all so if you consider buying from Golden Cross send me an pm and I will confirm the one I would avoid.

I found the perfect one. A Gatcombe with 4 travelling seats - a rare find!  Just too far for me to go to look and no time to spare.  Typical!!

That is a rare find, no chance you could try or come to some arrangement?

I have been to Perth for one, if you find the van on your doorstep that will be even rarer. For the right van you have to be prepared to travel I`m afraid.

I just don’t have the time at the moment to travel a long distance. I have so much in my diary with 4 music festivals and other trips planned as well as getting married in less than 4 months.  So busy!

In that case how are you going to find a MH?

Just wondering, depends on the priority. I guess.

I know! I always have a million things on the go at once. Also have work and caring for a grown up Daughter with additional needs.  Every spare second is spent on the search for the right MH but it would need to be local at the moment due to time restraints. It’s all good fun!

Hi there
I expect you will find that the fourth belt is actually a lap belt on the near-side side seat. I am almost 100% sure A/S never made a Gatcombe with two forward facing seats (like the Nuevo ES). If it is a lap belt on a side seat, then that would not be suitable for carrying children / passengers. Lap belts fitted to side seats are considered dangerous, causing more personal injury in the event of of accident. Sorry to dampen your thoughts. If you need a small A/S motorhome with bathroom and two proper travelling seats, the Neuvo ES is probably the only one.
Good luck with your search.

Thanks for this info and yes I think you’re right. Realistically there will only be 4 of us travelling once or twice a year so the 3rd and 4th passenger travelling separately may be a consideration although not ideal.  There may be 3 of us more often so the Gatcombe could work.
