WANTED Matt Black Vinyl tape

Post by frederic on Sun Mar 18, 2018 4:21 pm

To effect a temporary repair to the Matt vinyl side trims that A/S used on their later (last) Duetto's
[They did away with the plastic stick/screw on panels in the last couple of years of the Mk7 model and
used a vinyl film instead.]
In a couple of places, to the rear of the front doors, the adhesion over the vertical change in surface profile
has/did not adhere and is now starting to split due to em-belittlement.
A cosmetic repair is required until a more permanent fix is sourced.
Gaffer/Jungle tape is not an option!

A search for "matt black vinyl wrap" on Ebay will find it in all sorts of shapes and sizes. I used some Ebay vinyl wrap (but in matt clear) on the roof of the Trooper as a substrate for the solar panel to glue down onto, and I was impressed at the quality of the adhesive, even though it was relatively cheap. IIRC it was only about £12 for a 2m x 1.5m sheet - so narrower strips should not cost a lot.

Yes I found the matt black vinyl wrap on e bay but wanting it easy, thought a roll of tape would be easier .
Mind you with a sheet, I could hairdryer off the passenger side one and replace it in the long run.
Any links welcomed.

Hi Frederic, if you search car vinyl wrap on e bay there are loads of sellers and it is available in every colour and texture! Worth looking for the 3M variety as adhesives are first class and foils dont shrink over time. I last used it in a matt black textured finish to protect the bumper landing panel of an estate car. Application takes some getting used to but with a bit of heat applied ( I used a heat gun as it was freezing at the time) it can be stretched to fit in all directions. With a bit of care you should be able to make a good job of repairs. It can be bought from about a foot square up to a full roll so how about wrapping the whole van? hugegrins
