Is it just me?

Post by whisky on Wed Mar 07, 2012 12:38 pm

Hi All.

The question. Is it just me?

Have you noticed that just lately most of the newbies are coming straight on to the forum with a query or something to sell or wanting to buy something without even giving themselves an introduction.

What do you think about this? Rude maybe or. Is it just me?

Whisky. shrugg

I am useless with computers and didn't realise what the etiquette was at first, so I think some people do not realise, and maybe others are not that confident?

I asked a question on here before posting an intro as I didn't want to post up an intro until I had bought a van.

Cheers,

Hi SJR.

This post was not directed at you personally it was just a general observation as to whats been happening of late. Anyway welcome to the forum and good luck with your search for a suitable van.

Admin prefers new members to post an intro, prior to general posting. You are right though Whisky there are a few just jumping in, one today was very brief !!!

I did post an intro a couple of weeks ago, but I think it was my 3-4th post. http://www.autosleeper-ownersforum.com/t2435-new-owner-member

Maybe the site should have a "Readers rides" section to post pics of their vans in? The other two car clubs im in have them and are quite interesting?

I think it is a good idea to post an introduction as this can be useful in dealing with any questions that follow. However, I would not be overly concerned if a new member overlooked this.

My view is that all Autosleeper owners are welcome. up!

Is it just me

Post by murph on Thu Mar 08, 2012 10:59 am

Hi All,
Another thing that happens occasionally is that members ask for advice and then can not be bothered to post a thank you when advice is given, I find this very annoying.

Although not a separate sub-section, there is an ongoing thread in 'fun chat'....

Hi Whisky,

Must agree with you …. There has been a spate of "non intro's" of late so_sad

-----------------------------

Hi Murph,

Well put up! .. It is rude, not to post a ‘thank you’ after receiving advice .... Frank (Boxerman) did bring this up a while back !!

Perhaps we were just 'dragged-up' right hugegrins "Have a good day all" allthumbz

Re: Is it just me?

Just to clarify the above - We request all new members introduce themselves both at the signup terms page, and this is followed by a PM which goes to all new members upon activation of their account so there is no excuse.

New members should understand by introducing themselves that our existing members have already greeted them and are more likely to offer assistance. But we have to accept that not every member will introduce themselves and we can't force them, and some members (as past experience has taught us) introduce themselves at a later date when they get a feel for the forum.

Members can play a role by suggesting to those who have posted on the forum but haven't yet posted an "Intro" that perhaps they would consider doing so, this may help?

Regards

Admin.

I'll own up and admit that I had to check to see if I had complied.......... Brain like a sieve nowadays. Under various guises, like a lot of people we frequent a few forums and the one thing that is guaranteed to wind up is someone that joins and then promptly advertises stuff for sale and that is all they ever do. Coming on and asking for advice is OK, though as above, it is common courtesy to say thanks for the help - but simply using a forum because one is possibly too tight to advertise it on fleabay or whatever, is something that is just plain disrespectful to all those who put a lot of effort and personal time into running it.

End of moan........

Hello Alan

I'm surprised you do not appear to have received any welcomes! As you will no doubt recall, you were one of our first batch of members at the beginning of the forum so there weren't many of us around at that time. I wonder if when we made changes to the intro section, replies to your intro were lost as I know this happened to a few others?

No problem Alan, just a number of replies were lost in the early days and just thought maybe this could have been the reason winks
