Which USB

We have an Avtex TV/DVD, which has the ability to record to a USB. We would like to record some films and tv series to the USB. Avtex produce their own USB at 8GB, which seems quite small. Would appreciate some recommendations on a good USB with large storage, that will work on our Avtex.

I use a 16gb Sony stick from John Lewis, not for films but it will hold about 3000 music tracks.

We have a 64GB Sandisk Ultra Dual 64GB USB 3 drive, crammed with films from our Humax Freesat HDR. It has 17 films on it at the moment.
We even watched one on the LG hotel TV in Lanzarote last week.

The Dual drive has both standard and micro USB connectors, so I can use in an OTG capable Android tablet as well as the Avtex TV.

We use a USB external hard drive as it has much larger capacity, especially suitable if recording whole series. They are now very compact and cheaper GB for GB.  Just a thought.

Different Avtex TVs take different capacity usbs , you need to check what size usb yours can take. They are also particular as to which format they will play.

I have a 160GB Toshiba 1.8" ZIF drive in a case, rescued from an iPod Classic which I converted to flash memory.

Bear in mind, FAT32, which is how a lot of drives come formatted, will not be able to support large files over 2GB.

You need either NTFS or exFAT for larger HD files. The problem then is sometimes that the TV or device can't read those formats.
I have a Paragon app called Microsoft exFAT/NTFS, which is £9.99 from the Google Play store and allows Android devices to read almost any disk format.

So, Full HD movies on my Nexus 7 2nd gen tablet.

EDIT: Sorry Paul, as you say, check that the size/format of the drive will work on your TV and devices.

Retired but doing a bit of "overtime" that I am prepared to use to set up our new Nuevo to enjoy in our  "sensible" years. Never previously wanted a tele.. so what should I get to complement the new  Avtex 19 inch...satellite?   booster??  memory stick??   budget, including tv £1k max

One further point: Whenever you buy a flash memory device (whether it's a USB pendrive or a memory card) it's very important to test that it's genuine. Fakes have found their way into the stocks of even the most reputable suppliers, and the most frustrating thing about a fake is the fact that it will appear to successfully store whatever you write to it - even when it hasn't. The only time you find out is when you try to read the file - but that might be months later.

H2testw is probably the most commonly used one for a Windows environment, or F3 if you're using Linux - but there are others which have slightly different features.

Your Avtex will format the drive to what it requires. Then you can transfer files from the PC. Don't try it the other way round

Our Avtex TV happily reads from a drive formatted on a Linux PC.
