A very active Spambot!

Post by -mojo- on Fri Nov 24, 2017 4:30 am

I see the forum has a spambot currently posting (apparently) Japanese spam in the Motorhome and Camping Chat section. Posting what appears to be the same spam message every minute, and has been doing so for at least the last two hours!

Anyone know - what exactly is the point of that activity? I can understand a spammer repeating the same message every now & then to try to keep it at the top of the forum section, but why every minute?

They've appeared from two new members so I put both names into my 'foes' (friends and foes tab) which is supposed to stop me seeing their posts but that didn't work. Never could see the point of friends and foes but now I know it's pointless anyway.
Can not a mod ban the members or can only Admin do that, if so do we have to wait for him to log on?

Google translated the message as Korean. It is an online casino.

There should be a 'delete all users posts' option in the admin section but it depends on what privileges the mods have as to whether they can access this.

these spambots are a PITA

.....is that South Korea - or  quick_run gulp ! that hairdresser running North Korea ? .....if so, then Trump might be right, we're all doomed......our beloved forum attack could be the start of something very sinister indeed.....

Thank goodness for that. I also thought I was having an enduring senior moment! It soon passed...well after 10 mins.

It begs the question what is the point? Just that you can? There are some sad people about.

I "foed" him too but as you say, limited value.

From another forum, once somebody has been hidden you see what looks like an empty message. They continue to be displayed in the list of posts so not much use here.

We will just have to continue to wonder what friends are for.

When I clicked on "View posts since last visit" there are no less than 450 it tells me!  My goodness, I thought, then realised what they were.  What on earth do people get out of doing things like that?

Mae hwn yn uffernol , y diawliau! - is what I would have said had I been left to my own devices!

I share the bewilderment of Members as to what on earth the perpetrators get out of it.
