Hi  margaret , omnidirectional aerials such as the sputnik saucer aerials are normally worse than useless as they try to pick signal from all directions .  A unidirectional  aerial that you physically point at the incoming signal are always better . We have the Teleco wing aerial and although it seems to be omnidirectional and initially I thought it was rubbish but after remaking all the poorly made cable connections in the van it has worked surprisingly well. Can only think of one site where we have  resorted to a small directional aerial tied to the bike rack to get a good signal.

Thank you, I am pleased with the aerial I have on my van at present , new eighteen months ago, the long handle in the cupboard and lights that find a signal, that comes under technical to me, biggrin thinking of the Avtex as well ,some say they are good and I do have an Avtex TV although if I buy this van, would like  a larger screen.

Anything different to what have been use to takes a bit if learning t, o use another system I guess.

Best regards,
Margaret

The perfect van at the right price will be out there you just need to find it. I usually get fed up and compromise knowing that I can tackle and repair anything only to find my dream vehicle on sale for less the following week!

That`s usually the case, unfortunately,

I think I have found the van, a lot bigger than I started going for, so that would be very interesting.  smile! considering the places I go to.

Best regards,
Margaret

Telco do both Directional and Omni-directional aerials so the presence of a Telco amplifier doesn't tell which type is fitted, you need to look at the aerial itself.

From I could see Peter, it looked like my old aerial,  round with a spike.

An Omnidirectional that will only be adequate in strong signal areas as many have said previously. Avtex supply a directional aerial with an internal amplifier that can be used internally or externally and performs very well. Cheaper and easier than replacing the Omnidirectional with a directional on the roof.

Good point Peter will go down that route if I buy the van.

Thank you

No point in stressing , if you pick up the perfect van but the aerial is poor  there are always options , I keep a small directional caravan aerial in bed box clamped to the bike rack in 30 seconds and tuned in via a free app for your phone which gives you the direction to point aerial   displayed by an arrow on the screen of any smart phone  also gives alternative transmitters and best signal available  It really is that simple and can cost only a few pounds .  Certainly since using the app never needed my signal strength meter ...

If you look for  uk aerial alignment , this is the one I use . There may be loads out there now but it works for me and is simple to use.
