Ask me or Roli if it's past the time when you can do it yourself.

Our charges are very reasonable!!  Whistle1  lol4

Thanks Gromit. I will next time. It wasn't past the time as I accidently sent it so rushed to delete it but couldn't.   girl-crying-sad   In the end I just edited it. See forum notices and announcements.
The edit button says edit/delete. Why?????????????

Ok then let’s try this with a normal member sign in

Hmm!  Never noticed that before Rose.   There is no obvious way to delete a post, had a look round on Liz’s sign in. Will contact Ed about it.    Thanks for the nod about this

Several times over the years I've wanted to delete a post but for the normal member you cannot, there is no 'delete' button, so I've just edited a post to 'post deleted'. I've always assumed that only a mod could delete.

I think that's probably the case Paul. (Will reply to your PM in a while. Just got back and been busy.) I'm sure you know the reason, but others may be curious.

On another forum that I moderated we had a big problem with a really stroppy member who made a number of posts which seriously libelled a dealer. The dealer posted his intention to begin litigation, upon which the member promptly deleted all his previous posts, and swore he had never said anything libellous.

I wasn't privy to the final outcome, but thereafter all posts were "time bombed" after which only Mods could delete them. (They didn't actually delete them in fact, but moved them to a secure and hidden sub forum in case a paper trail was ever needed.)

No doubt this forum is set up in the same way. It protects against real and serious potential problems in these days of instant litigation by preserving tangible evidence for the forum owner, should it ever be required.

We can delete individual posts but only do so if its an obvious mistaken duplicate post. If the thread is going wrong, it can be sent to a private basket for Admin to sort out.

A few years ago the option to delete was there and a poster deleted all his threads which resulted a right mess on the forum.
It was this reason Ed decided to remove the option.
Admin CC,Dave,Peter and myself can delete threads.
How about this, edit your post to remove the text and one of us will delete the blank thread

You have to put some text in or it goes back to original post. I tried that. Best we do what Paulmold said and write deleted.

I put a post on today and noticed a little box with an X in it next to the edit button. I thought great the delete button is back. I put another post on and no X appeared and hadn't done so since, very odd.

I have just posted and you're not the only one with a x. I'll have a practice. Don't want to delete my new post so write another.

This post didn't have the magical x. It must be new posts

Please note the dustbin under my post. For some reason it comes up some time. Just to prove I'm not seeing things I decided to take a photo. And it will delete.

Yes, I get that on the mobile version. It works for me but I have moderator rights. I wouldn't expect it to work for those who aren't moderators.

I believed you anyway Rose because on a post I made this morning, the X appeared again next to the edit button.
