Audible beep whilst driving Empty Audible beep whilst driving

Post by moggyminor1966 Fri Dec 09, 2011 7:03 pm

Whilst driving up from Somerset to Yorkshire on Thursday for the last 20mls an audible beep started from the dashbord which was 3 short followed by 1 long beep which continued for the whole 20mls-very irritating-and only stopped when I switched off the ignition. I took it to a local Peugeot main dealer but when I restarted the Nuevo it had stopped. the dealer had no idea and had not come across it before but said there was an 80mph speed limiter on it which I was unaware of. Anybody had this beep??i

Hi Moggy...

Are you certain the beep was coming from the dash and not the control panel at the rear? the only beeps we get from the dash are when we go over 30mph (to prevent you speeding in built up areas I guess) think this can be switched off or customised, check your handbook.

We had to turn off the alarm on our control panel as it kept beeping, think it's because there is no water on board but we just disabled the alarm, probably doesn't answer your question.. Peugeot don't seem very helpful if my experience with them is anything to go by, you might be better off asking Auto-Sleeper unless another member can help?

BTW... Are you saying your Nuevo is restricted to 80 mph?

Hi CC the beep was diofintely coming from the dash area-never heard the control panel beeping.

Not too sure if it has an engine speed limiter or perhaps more likely just an audible speed warning which you can set up to 80mph.

Yep, I understand you can customise the beeps & I guess yours is set at 80mph, ours is set at 30mph which annoyed the hell out of us at the start but actually is a handy reminder that you may be going slightly faster than you should in 30 zones so am happy to leave it as it is.

Plenty of Nuevo owners on the forum now, several of whom have joined recently so hopefully they can help?

Audible beep whilst driving Empty Re: Audible beep whilst driving

Hi Moggy….

I guess if it is a speed issue then it should be easy to replicate. But then if it were speed related why did it only show up in the last part of your journey and not earlier on?

Beeping from the rear could be put down to, for example, low water level.

If it is coming from the front it is definitely Peugeot rather than AS. Maybe there is an audible alert for a pending service interval approaching?

If Peugeot can’t help then maybe you should visit a Fiat dealer as it is really a Ducato deep down.

I've just found this thread on MHFun forum regarding a mystery beep, have a look, there's lots of suggestions, not necessarily any correct ones, but might be worth following some of them --

Probably not the problem Moggy... but have you left your grey waste tap open? Ours beeped on our last trip as I purposely left the tap open to get rid of any left over water in the tank, couldn't think why it was beeping as we pulled off the campsite so after a couple of miles pulled over to shut the tap off and it never beeped again for the rest of the journey? seemed to remember reading something about this in the handbook as well.

It's a real shame the Auto-Sleeper handbook doesn't give more detailed info, don't know if it's just me... but I find it very basic on just about everything and it's all a bit of a guessing game, if they got rid of all the camping code of conduct nonsense and concentrated more on troubleshooting issues like this it would make much more sense to me!

CC, I am surprised to hear that there is a need for a sensor on the grey water tap as the Symbol certainly doesn’t have one in this position.

You're probably right Keith, must admit it does sound "A Bit Too Clever" and I wondered how it could detect a tap was open.. but after shutting the tap the beeping stopped (blonde moment perhaps hugegrins ) have to be honest and admit we've not used ours a great deal due to the weather and other commitments since getting it, so not really got used to how everything operates & having only covered around 350 miles since collecting it, it's still all relatively new to me...

I was out in the van a short while ago, and had a look at the mode / control panel down to the right of the driving wheel and there are very little settings that you can actually alter from what I can see (the handbook shows many different menus and settings which I cant seem to access?) but the beeping referred to as 'Buzz' can easily be adjusted on a scale of 0-8, I presume 0 silences it, not really a problem for us as ours only sounds when we first hit 30mph, or the step retracts as you pull away, and the other occasion as mentioned was when driving off the campsite (for whatever reason) think if I was Moggy and it was going off that frequently I would just silence it shrugg

Hi CC
My first thought when you mentioned about your beeps was that a door may have triggered the warning and you inadvertently rectified the problem when you drove off (after closing the tap and the door). Next time you are out and about (with an empty grey water tank) why don’t you try opening your waste tap to see if you can replicate the problem. I suppose you have already checked to see if there is a sensor wire going to the tap.

I have not seen any Nuevo’s out here but it seems to be a popular model in the UK judging by the number of owners represented on this forum. It looks like a nice vehicle, not too long, and without an ugly Luton to spoil the streamlining. I am sure you can’t wait for the weather to improve so that you can start to enjoy it.

The Peugeot owners manual can be confusing and seems to relate to other models other than your own. You are right, you can customise settings and change the speed alert to a higher value. I don’t use the vehicle speed alert but prefer to use another one which I have in the digital speedometer which I fitted to give me km/h readings.

Thanks for all your replies guys as the beeping has now stopped not going to worry too much. It certainly was not the grey waste as it has been open whilst driving with no beep. I agree CC that the handbook is pretty useless and the best way of working things out is just to try it. we have returned from a few days in Yorkshire and had the fire on electric permanently all the time we were there and it was very cosy in fact in the bathroom was like a sauna! I am sure we are going to enjoy it a lot. smile! smile!

We found exactly the same, we had our heating on and when we went to use to the bathroom it was like "Blimey" bit warm in ere! snigger

Shame they don't have a hot air duct going into the cab area as that seems to be the cooler area, AS could easily have added this to the end of the bunk facing towards the cab area, maybe this is a mod that could be carried out and would be very worthwhile if possible.

Glad the beeps are not giving you any more grief for now... up!

Keith, thanks for the comments on the Nuevo.. we really like the low profile roof and as you say a nice size, they are frequently referred to as small vans but I wouldn't want anything bigger at this time, as to me it still seems a large beast coming from up the Trident smile! No doubt I will get used to it's bigger size when driving and maneuvering after a few more miles on the clock winks

Getting back to the beeps that I encountered (sorry to hijack Moggys thread) I don't think it was the door open as I believe this shows a light on the dash (or at least i think it does scratch head )
I know sometimes the handbrake doesn't always get fully put down to the floor, but you definitely get a light on the dash for that accompanied with the beeps so got used to that one pretty fast, will do as you say and see if I can replicate it on our next trip out.

Audible beep whilst driving Empty Beeps

Post by murph Tue Dec 20, 2011 8:51 am

Hi moggy,
Glad to see your beep has disapeared, hope it doesn't reappear let us know if it does. With reference to the washroom getting hot Ihave fitted a hook and eye on the door which holds the door open about 3 inches just enough to even up the temprature, and our ES does have a hot air duct to heat the cab end of the lounge, it has a very flexible pipe to allow the seat to be slid back and forth from extra seat to bench mode.

Read on another forum that if the beep is not accompanied by a warning light, the only item it can be is the step. In the particular post I read the switch wire was getting trapped in the step and had chaffed the insulation and was shorting to make the beep and another forum member had the wire trapped preventing the step from fully retracting.

Hi Paul.. maybe this was referring to series1 Nuevos?

Had a look at ours and there are no wires that can get trapped (not that I can see at least) everything is concealed in a black box on the left outerside of the step, the wire goes into the box at the rear encased in a flexi conduit type pipe and is well away from the steps opening and closing action, not dismissing what you have said just cant see how the wire could get chaffed or trapped, unless the discussion was regarding the Series1 models and these are slightly different maybe?

Audible beep whilst driving Empty beep

Post by murph Tue Dec 20, 2011 3:00 pm

Hi All,
Our Lancashire doesn't have an electric step, just a double manual one, as this is supposed to be an upgrade from the standard Nuevo, I assume that all mk 1 s were fitted with manual steps as standard.

We have just bought a Cotswold 2011 model and are experiencing a high pitched 'buzz/beep'. My wife is convinced it is coming from the area near the fridge/leisure battery area but our dealer has assured us that there isn't an audible warning device in that area. It doesn't seem consistent but appears to come approximately an hour after starting the engine and then every so often after that. It doesn't do it when the engine is switched off. Obviously we can't ride in the back to track it down accurately - any suggestion? It isn't the step or smoke alarm. Is there an audible warning in the Controller under the sink? Should this be switched on/off when driving or does it automatically isolate itself?
