First trip

Hi all. Although exmilitary and used to living out of a vehicle in Europe this is our first trip using camp sites. First stop will be sandwich lakes close to Dover on 2nd. Crossing to Calais next day and motoring to Troyes minicipal site that night. Next say to soleil des Fruity near Vallenes. Overnight there then on to Blanes near Girona fow  couple of weeks. No return ticket booked so after a 60th Birthday party for an old mate we might go home via Germany in mid October. I'll let you know.

I would suggest you don't book ahead too much. I can understand why you would on your first trip, but it really isn't necessary other than near water in the high season. More to the point, it negates what is arguably the best feature of a motorhome, in that you can stay for as long or short a time as you want, and it's so easy to up sticks and move on . . . and there are plenty of aires and campsites to choose from!!!

Firstly welcome to the Forum from what was a warm and sunny Selsdon. Can only agree with what Gromit says. I booked my first site ever in France and have never done so since. Totally unnecessary as you can always find a site. If I might say you are setting a cracking pace. I know Troyes well and the municipal site. You could easily spend a few days there. One of the joys of having a motorhome is taking things at a leisurely pace and have a good look around. Anyway, whatever you do have fun.

Agree with both the above, all you need is a copy of "All the Aires" and a satnav and the World is your lobster! We always make sure we have somewhere for the first night and then make it up as we go along. Welcome from sunny Cornwall and have a great trip!

+1 for me as well. I use camper contact  as well.   20,000 sites. There are some sites that you need to book if you want to be sure in high season.  Brugge comes to mind. I always arrived at the Memlin caravan site with a close call on entrance. Not stayed for 5+ years so it could be even more busy!
I always have a backup in my route workings.
