Photobucket??

Is it just me who has Photobucket plastered all over the page? Others appear to be posting as normal

No, most of us have the problem. I believe Admin will be back midweek and on the case.

No unfortunately not, as I found myself. Bit of a drag scrolling through home page but if you make a note of time you can work out which posts are new.

I cannot log in to this forum from my desk top so now on laptop, I am not on photobucket, but the images are awful, tried to get rid, no joy, so will have to see what happens when admin is back.

I am on two other motorhome forums and they do not have this problem. What a nightmare this is.

It's not a nightmare Daisy, although it did seem like one at first when it took me over a day to get any sort of usable access.

Having followed the advice of Slaphead and others the forum is perfectly usable for chatting, but you just can't post any pictures.

It's not (quite!) the end of the world as we know it, but please everyone keep on posting or the forum will stagnate and take a long time to recover. Admin will be back soon and hopefully he will be able to improve matters, if not cure it completely.

Hi  wave

Gromit wrote: but you just can't post any pictures.

Actually you can still post pictures but not from Photobucket. The "Host Picture" function in the editor still works (uses Servimg).

It's the icon near the middle of the row that looks like a screen with a floppy disk in front of it. Just drag the image you want to post into the box then click "Send All".

The image automatically gets uploaded to Servimg and an "Insert" icon appears. Click it and the picture is inserted. Easier than using Photobucket.

As for forums that don't show the problem they must have paid the "ransom" or Photobucket haven't realised that they have embedded images yet.

Quite right to!

It’s been on lots of “computing websites” as well e.g. PC Magazine. As they say, Photobucket changed their terms and conditions last week but didn’t tell anyone about it. Then almost immediately trashed hundreds of forums. One of the comments seemed quite apt “I’m surprised they don’t ask for payment in bitcoin”. hugegrins

Of course nobody can stop Photobucket charging what they want but I would expect any reputable business to notify customers of the charges well in advance (say 30days) to give them the option of accepting the new charges or not.

Brodco: very many thanks for showing us how we can still add photos. Most helpful.
Let's see if I can do it: (is it the same bird?)

Ah.... I can't make it work [using FireFox].

On the top row of formatting etc buttons in the drafting page, the 3rd from right is "Insert Image" but that asks for URL etc and isn't the correct one;

Suspect subtle changes between browsers?
Cymro

The 4th button from right is "host an image" but that asks me to sign into www.serving.com and I don't have a password for it.

Hopefully with a view to kicking Photobucket off altogether. It's ruining a well run forum.

That’s the one. When I did it for the first time it automatically set up a Servimg account. (incidentally it’s Servimg as in serv image not Serving). It used the same username and password as I used for the forum so when I signed into the forum I automatically signed into Servimg as well.
It looks as if you may have to create an account separately now but if you do so using the same credentials as you use for the forum you probably (not sure) won’t have to log on separately.

Thanks! It led us to the apron at Kissimmee, near Orlando. Had to take the photo!

PS (or maybe no pee...) here's one I took at Carluccio's at St Pancras. Seemed a very severe restriction and made me wonder!

I've been using servimg for years, no issues at all with it. The only irritation is that just lately you get a pop-up page advertising one thing or another. This is easily shut down and stays down unlike the carp photobucket constantly reloads onto your screen, which, as someone else has said, makes it virtually unusable.

Agreed I’ve been using Servimg for my last few posts. I only kept the Photobucket account alive because that’s where the pictures are in my earlier posts. I suppose that’s pointless now but we can worry about that when Admin has returned things to normal.

The only thing I don’t understand about Servimg is “who pays”? They don’t seem to have any paid options.

In all the years I've used it, I've never been approached for money. I first started using it when I signed up with a fishing forum, long, long ago and my username and password are still the ones I used on that forum. I always assumed [never assume!] that it came as a package with the forum software. I run a small forum for the RTMR and it uses phpBB software like this one, but as I don't pay for separate forum hosting, the links to servimg are not there, or that's my theory.
As mentioned, it has lately started popping up advert pages, which perhaps provides additional income?

Servimg and any other "free" provider can change their terms of service at a whim. Jumping from Photobucket into Servimg may just make for the same problem in the (near?) future.

Personally, I'm not jumping anywhere, as I said, I've been using it for years.
Perhaps in the future, they may decide to charge for their services, fair enough if they do it in a decent fashion, like giving their clients notice of their intentions and applying a reasonable charge.
Photobucket gave no warning and the fees for the ordinary person are scandalous.
