Photobucket Solutions

Post by Slaphead on Sat Jul 01, 2017 5:29 pm

I have worked out two solutions, one for Firefox and one for Internet Explorer.

Firefox:

click on the little "i" just in front of "www. autosleeper-ownersforum.com" up at the to left of you browser page.

This displays "www.autosleeper" and a little ">" at the right.  Click on the ">".

Now click on "more information".

Click on the "Media" button at the top.

This displays a list of web addresses.

Click on any of the upteen relating to Photobucket.

Look down at the bottom left and you will see a box to tick to let you block all the images from Photobucket.

Internet Explorer:

click on "tools", (the gear wheel at the top right hand corner)

select "internet options", "privacy" then "manage sites".

in the "website address panel", type in "photobucket.com"

click on "Block"

Hope this helps some of you but the solution appears to be different for other internet browsers.

Do any of the browsers restore the appearance of the forum to exactly what it was before Photo-(banned words!!) wrecked everything?

If so, a temporary solution would be for all those who are able, to use that browser.

(To those of us with a mucky mind who are able to fill in the banned words (above), it's very aptly named, eh?)

P.S. It wouldn't be too much trouble to use the appropriate browser (if there is one?) just for the forum, and use your preferred one for everything else. A separate icon on the task bar would make it dead easy. It may be a work-around?

That's just what I have done, installed Firefox and everything appears normal albeit without the linked PB images.

Dave

No browser will restore the original appearance because that would require access to all of the images hosted by this forum on the Photo*ucket site and they won't allow that unless they are paid their ransom money.

Even that would not restore pictures in threads that have been placed by posters unless we all paid up $400, which isn't going to happen.

I only ever used PB as this was recommended on here as the (only?) way to post pictures and it was becoming increasingly unusable as the screen became more and more obliterated by adverts. No other forum I use has this requirement, pictures are simply uploaded direct to the forum.

A completely different method of hosting this forum for future will be needed.

Meanwhile, reading the globally negative response to PB's action, I suspect their days are numbered anyway as they seem to have fired a massive shot into their own foot.

I have already downloaded the dozen or so pictures I had on PB and have closed my account.

cheers
Roger

PS I have already taken the helpful advice given on here and made the changes to my Chrome browser for this site.
If anyone has any similar tips which will enable me to access the forum on my Android smart phone and on my Amazon Fire (Silk browser) then I'd be very grateful

Roger: We have been photobucketted too. I already had it blocked on my browser ( Chrome) but despite unblocking and reblocking can't find a way to restore normality.

My OH uses Safari on a Mac and is currently looking for a way out for him as well.

All advice gratefully received.

( At least I can post today; up to now I couldn't do that)

Update: We've both downloaded Firefox to use for ASOF and this seems to have sorted it.

However...I hope the powers-that-be sort it soon as I have had trouble with Firefox in the past, hence it not being on my computer.

Thank you to those working in the background.

Ploughlin's solution did not work for me so following on from Slaphead's solution above here is his method in pictures for Firefox.......

Click on the i

Click on the >

Click More Information

Click Media

Click to highlight photobucket URL and check Block
There are a number of URL's for photobucket so check that all are blocked.
Refresh the browser and all photobucket images should have disappeared.
Time to get ready for tomorrows trip to the south west!

Also posted on separate thread; Photobucket pop-ups disappeared this morning. I don't remember doing anything special although I did try Rob's 'fix' above on Firefox. At time, no change but have re-booted laptop this morning and all seems to be back as it should be.

That's because FF was restarted and refreshed with the reboot, the Photoblockit ransomware images are still there I'm afraid.

Oops sorry, still a problem on some threads! It appears to be affecting certain members avatars. Though forum mostly clean.

Goodnight
