I have never used Photobucket, but have also been taken over on this site. I can hardly use the site because the Photobucket messages are so intrusive (see screenshot)

How do I get rid of their messages from my iPad ?

I to have been taken over by Photobucket

Post by Willdadav on Sat Jul 01, 2017 8:43 am

Hi all, if someone out there can find a solution to this please post it. It is now becoming almost impossible to
Use the forum due to these pop ups.

As has been advised by others, first of all use Google to search for image-blocker add-on for your type of browser; download it; then activate it in your browser (e.g if you use Firefox, go to Tools > Add-ons). I've installed ImageBlock. It adds an on / off button. I thereby block all images on the Forum. Works well - but some useful images are also blocked at the moment, and of course I can't view any helpful photos which Members may post.

Yes this works as does Adblocker for Firefox.  After installing Adblocker right click on the image and block just photobucket.com and they all go away, 'appy daze'

I deleted my PB account yesterday. Not because I thought it would cure this forums problems, but because I was so disgusted with them. I put this in the 'reason for closing account' box.
It was hard work trying to do anything of the PB site, due to the incessant pop-ups etc., blocking the screen.

Perhaps we could have a whip round to pay the ransom for one year while admin moves the forum images elsewhere?

Paulmold has proposed that the problem might be with forumotion, and this theory seems to hold some water as people are still able to link to PB images on another privately owned forum that I frequent, which used to be forumotion hosted but isn't any longer, (they are not PB subscribers BTW, I checked).

It could be that forumotion have to upgrade, not ASOF.

Hi wave
boxerman wrote:It was hard work trying to do anything of the PB site, due to the incessant pop-ups etc., blocking the screen.
I haven't used PB for months for similar reasons but I left the account open to avoid trashing my old posts. Have you noticed the advert that appears before they let you into the site? Many of the pictures are in poor taste and I find some offensive and bordering on pornographic! You certainly wouldn't want your children (OK grandchildren for most people on this forum) to see them.
boxerman wrote:Perhaps we could have a whip round to pay the ransom for one year while admin moves the forum images elsewhere?
I would contribute if the forum decided to organise that but I hate the idea of paying the ransom. Actually I don't think it would take long for someone with the right permissions to move the forum images (home screen etc) but they can't easily do anything about previous posts where the images belong to the members.

I think we need to wait until Admin is available before we can get any further. Perhaps he could be persuaded to allow us to edit previous posts for a period of time so that we can move and re-link any images ourselves.

Problem it could be a long job and some people won't want move them while others have problems posting images in the first place so are unlikely to want to get involved in editing links.

Initially blocking the forum access to Photobucket would at least make the site usable and I would imagine Admin has the ability to do that.

In any case it look as if we're are going to lose some of the valuable information resource we've built up over the years. I sincerely hope that this back fires on Photobucket and they loose shed loads of customers.

I can see the logic in that but I doubt if its anything to do with Forumotion (I may be proved wrong). The forum gave details for using PB but the pictures just had to be on any publically available site.

If anything I would have thought Forumotion had a deal with Servimg since using the "Host Image" function in the editor automatically connects with Servimg.

Anyway it's made the press and it seems the problem is exactly as we suspected. They changed the terms and conditions last week, didn't tell anyone about it and immediately trashed hundreds or thousands of websites. censored  censored

Don't worry Brod.

I can't easily get to the buttons or I would tidy up for you. Duplicated posts are the least of our worries a.t.m.

Edit:- Oh, yes I can if I juggle with the image blocker. Probably won't bother though unless it becomes a real pest.

Having spent several hours trying to resolve this, I was about to give up when I had a major break through.

I will try to detail the solution as clearly as I can:

click on the little "i" just in front of "www. autosleeper-ownersforum.com" up at the to left of you browser page.

This displays "www.autosleeper" and a little ">" at the right.  Click on the ">".

Now click on "more information".

Click on the "Media" button at the top.

This displays a list of web addresses.

Click on any of the upteen relating to Photobucket.

Look down at the bottom left and you will see a box to tick to let you block all the images from Photobucket.

Hope I have made this is clear.

I wish it did on mine Slappers!!

Thanks for trying, but it doesn't work for me. I'm using Chrome, which may have a bearing on it????

EDIT - GOOD NEWS HOWEVER

It does allow a better solution than just blocking with the bolt on image blocker from Chrome.

When I click the little "i" I get a list of default settings, including "images". I set that to "Always block on this site" and it does.

What is very useful - it leaves the text descriptions for pretty well all the "clicky" buttons, except in the Reply Panel. Here you can hover the cursor to get what you want, for example the red text for this edit.

Thanks for the indirect help. It makes the forum more or less usable again. (Big smiley would have been inserted here!!)

...just tried it, and the dreaded PB images have gone at last - thanks for a solution I wouldn't have had the faintest idea to try.
But - now how to regain all AS images ?

Dave,

Please where is the "i" you mention? I can use either IE or more usually Microsoft Edge as browsers, but I can't see any means of blocking this pesky PB stuff.

Hope you can help?

Thanks,

Hi Bart

Scroll up the page a bit. Slappers has given detailed instructions - which didn't work for me but I found the alternative. You may also be lucky.

It's not a perfect solution, but it does make the forum fairly easy to use again.

Dave,

I'd seen the thread above but I'm assuming all these comments relate to Chrome as, with my browsers, I cannot locate a comparable command or function.

Anyone else found a workaround for Edge or IE please?

Hi Bartfarst,  I have detailed an IE solution under the heading "photoshop solutions" in the general chat forum as follows:

click on "tools", (the gear wheel at the top right hand corner)

select "internet options", "privacy" then "manage sites".

in the "website address panel", type in "photobucket.com"

click on "Block"

Hope this works for you.
