Hi ,
i am soon to have a Fiamma awning fitted on my 2002 Nuevo 2 berth, the guy who is fitting it recommends cutting the jointing strip above the door so the awning can fit flush to the side of the van, is this normal to cut this or is it asking for trouble,ie..water getting in to the van ?, or should it have packers to bring it out from the side of the van a little bit ?
is there anyone on the forum with a Nuevo round about the same year as mine with an awning fitted ?maybe they could post a pic so i can see how thiers was done ?
thanks, eddie....

Can't visualise what he means.

The awning as fitted by A/S is nowhere near any jointing strips??

I see what you mean.

I don't think I would want the strip cut.  It shouldn't be difficult to pack out the awning fitting a bit. The strip is not very thick after all.

I have a 2004, but just the same model. Don't cut the strip, it's far easier to pack out the awning then fit a moulded bridging strip to fill the gap. This is what I did when I had my awning fitted 3 years ago. It looks good, and never a drip of water has got between the awning and van.

I have an awning fitted on my 2002, it requires two spacing blocks to which the awning is attached. A wide rubber strip from the awning to the van covers the gap.

thanks to dave  Al and rewink for the advice, i will go the way Al and redwink  recommends. i sent autosleeper an email thinking i would get no reply but the guy replied  almost straight away, this was his reply...... "if they are going to cut the bonding rubber then they fitting the awning incorrectly and it will be too low and the door will hit the canvas. Cutting into the bonding rubber could cause water ingress also. To fit the awning correctly they will have to purchase a set of fibreglass awning wedges from our parts department which have to be shaped around the bonding rubber, these will also allow them to fit the awning higher up preventing the door from rubbing. Our parts department can be contacted on 01386 842630." cheers, eddie

Hi Redwink, was your awning already on your van or did you do it yourself or a company ?

I had the awning fitted after I had the van for a while, I used the AS dealer I bought the van from. I was going to have one fitted at a show, but they refused to do it because they did not have the blocks. From distant memory, someone told me the awning length is quite important otherwise the legs are not long enough, but the dealer would know this.

I could try and post a couple of pics?
