Keys with new Autosleepers

Post by chalkywhite on Fri Jun 02, 2017 7:41 am

My new Warwick XL only came with one remote key fob and 1 normal key. Is that what every one is getting with there new Autosleepers, or have I been short changed.

My initial thought ...... getting less for your money, but that prompted me to look at our two sets of keys. Well only to discover just the one remote key fob. Obviously I couldn't remember as my wife always takes the other set when we use the van.  oh_blast!

Same on my 2012 model but don't think that the van manufacturers have been giving 2 remotes for quite a few years before that, my 2006 Ducato had one of each

My new Nuevo collected on Feb 1st had only one remote fob.

When I had the alarm fitted I ordered a second remote fob.

Pretty well all motor manufacturers only supply one remote fob with each vehicle the second just being a key

Same as my new Symbol.  One full remote fob and one normal blade.

I had the Autowatch alarm fitted though which means the second key comes with a remote fob that also operates all the doors, so is effectively the same, but just in two parts, if you see what I mean.

There has been discussion on this.  The main key is fine but the normal key that has a separate fob does not activate/deactivate the side door.  I guess its Pugs way of getting you to spend more money.

Don't think it's anything to do with Pugs as all the vehicles Ive had in the last 30 years have only ever had 1 x Fob and 1 Key

The exception being my latest Yaris which came with 2 x Fobs

My experience is totally opposite. I've owned 28 cars in 45 years and never had a car with only one set of keys and even after remotes were introduced, Ive always had two.

My Fiat Nuevo came with 2 complete identical sets of keys last year so I think it might be a Pug thing.

For what it's worth when I got my Warwick Duo a couple of years ago I only had one remote. I looked around on the net and could get a second key for something around £170 whereas the Pug was £230 ish. I took advice from a mechanic friend who said...."if you buy on the net and you have a problem later what do you do? At least if you bought from a Pug dealer you can get it sorted face to face" I went for the dealer option, paid the extra £50 and can sleep at night.

Not sure if this is common with campervans or not but as we were preparing the California for the p/x I had to have a good search round for all the different keys.  This is what it came with direct from VW, no aftermarket bits

All times two
Ignition key
Water filler cap
Safe
Bicycle rack
Tow bar

Plus a remote fob for the diesel heater.

Slightly different from our T2, which had one key, mind you nothing locked apart from the cab doors and you could start it with a screwdriver.

Now it sounds like our new Kingham will only have one key so back to 1972

Yeah but then you only get a blade with a blank transponder don't you.

You'd need to get the transponder coded, so not as simple as they make it sound.

I will let you know, but they have just supplied one for a friends car, no idea how it was handled.
