overflowing watertank when filling?

Post by Wh05apk on Thu Jun 01, 2017 7:44 am

Not sure if this is normal, when I fill the water tank, the first I know it is near full is that water seems to pour out from under the van, is this normal, or is there maybe a cap missing on the tank?

Not sure about pour out, but the tanks have breather pipes from what I'm aware of, so if you fill to the brim they drip for a while as the level lowers below the breather.

If it's pouring out it sounds like it'd be worth having a nose underneath to see where it's coming from.

Thankyou, will try and have a look, seems to be quite a lot, unless the breather pipes are 4" diameter! wouldn't surprise me if there has been a cap left off, but as this is our first van, difficult to know what is "normal"

When filling my Rienza, it used to overflow through a secondary pipe, just as it reached the full stage.    Probably not a problem but undertand that you would want to be sure.

Mine dribbles when full. I once had the heater dump valve open and that cascaded water when the pump was switched on.

Sounds normal to me. We have a Warwick Duo and before that a Duetto on the MK7 Transit and before that a Duetto on the MK5 Transit and they have all done as the OP describes when the tank is full.

I suppose it all come down to what you consider is meant by, "pour out". The vent at the top of the tank is quite large and we use this as an indicator of 'fullness'. By all means have a look underneath when the water is dripping, or pouring out, but I am pretty sure that there is nothing amiss.

Thanks guys, sounds normal, the flow is probably about the same as the amount going in by the hose, so unless it is an expanding tank, then what goes in has to come out somewhere.

Normal on our Pollensa; it's how we know we've filled the tank  up!

Recently aquired a 2012 Stratford. When filling with water a valve would close somewhere and the Whale filler would pop off or the electric powered local filler would stop. After a hose fill the main pump ceased to work and now the tank overflows without a valve stopping the flow. Could the two events be connected? Has anyone drawn a circuit diagram? Shall I!? Vague memory of a ball cock being mentioned so any point in removing the big inspection 'plug' in the tank floor?
