anyone use Marquis Motorhomes Winchester?

Post by AutoSleepyDon on Sun May 14, 2017 12:04 pm

I am considering (seriously) getting a new AS Warwick Duo from Marquis (Winchester).
I would be grateful to anyone who could share any experiences (good or bad) they have had with Marquis in Winchester.

Are they allthumbz  or censored!

Since posting this I was suprised to learn that Autosleepers is owned by Marquis since 2005.
Backed up by wikipedia so it must be true, at least owned by the same people.

Auto-sleeper owned Marquis but now both are owned by Trigano group. There is no love lost between owners of AS's on here and Marquis , lots of good and bad experiences of all branches so I'm sure someone with first hand experience will be along soon.

The current hierarchy is Trigano Group to Auto-sleeper Investments to Auto-sleeper Group who own and operate the Marquis Dealership and the AS factory as two independent entities.

As Paul suggested, the quality of service from Marquis seems to depend very much upon which branch you use. Some of them are reported to be excellent, while others are said to be best avoided.

I only have personal experience of one branch, and after several visits I remain underwhelmed. I think you are wise to try and get a personal evaluation of your local branch. A friend of ours bought his present van from the branch I visited, and they were all over him like a rash - until he had taken delivery. After that he might have been a leper for all the service he got. (I exaggerate slightly, but they were certainly not nearly as enthusiastic about after sales support!!)

I bought a Warwick Duo 2 1/2 years ago from Dolphin who are not a million miles from you. Had a few problems with it but both AS and Dolphin stepped up to the mark and put things right. They seem OK to me.

This proves what has been said further up thread - our experience was underwhelming to say the least and I wouldn't hurry back there.

As we tour the Marquis dealers I will give an "avoid" to Golden Cross, Eastbourne. Brilliant pre-sales but downhill from handover onwards.

I have not heard from anyone with first hand experience of Marquis Hampshire so I decided to check reviews on google.
I checked the closest dealer that is not part of the Marquis network called "Dolphin Motorhomes" in Southampton and they have an average review of 4.6 (out of 5) from 7 reviews. That's pretty good.
Then I found Marquis Hampshire, and,  oh dear... not good  hugegrins

Which reviews are you referring to on google, I tried and there was one which referred to a Marquis Hampshire motorhome and a yell one that comes up when you put in Hampshire but reading the reviews they mention Poole and Tewkesbury!

Would love to know what I have missed and the source of these bad reviews.

The entry is labelled just "Marquis" and is situated at the correct location. Screenshots below.
There is a entry labelled "Marquis Motorhomes & Caravan Hampshire" but is in the wrong place on the map and has no reviews.

The reviewers name is "MyDamp Caravan" hugegrins   which would cause anyone some frustration.

I wouldn't take any notice of reviews on Google, or any other similar format where the reviewer remains safely anonymous. Look at any product on Amazon for example, and there are ALWAYS a few who love the sight of their own words, and will find a way to slag it off, even when it's quite obvious (as Inspiredron intimated on another thread) they haven't a clue how to use it, or they try to use it in way for which it was patently not intended.

It seems clear that Marquis are not unique in that some branches are better than others. Finding trustworthy reviews is difficult, although I would think any comments about first hand experience made by our forum members would be pretty reliable. up!

I would certainly not take any notice of a single review from a totally unknown person, who may well have gone in guns blazing and alienated the staff from the outset, so they were not much inclined to roll out the red carpet. They are only human after all, and it has always been my experience that people tend to reflect the manner in which you approach them!

Mostly!! rolleyes

All four of our vans have come from Dolphin Hampshire and Bobskate's endorsement meets our own. Dolphin are holding a three day show at Shamba Holiday Park on 30th June to 1st July. New and used vans for sale (various makes) and are agents for A/S.

Me also, very good dealer, no problems and PDI was excellent. Also offer a deal on Habitation check.

Give them a try, I am sure you will be pleased.

We have never bought from Marquis so have no personal experience. From experience of buying caravans and motorhomes I would tend to seek out the smaller independent dealers as opposed to large chain type dealers. They tend to care more about customers . In the past bought from Discover and were treated disgustingly.Glad they are now defunct!
Had a similar experience from a well known large dealer in the Warminster area. My best advice is buy from a dealer you would not be put off by  having to take your van regularly for remedial work. The perfect van or deal maybe be available 450 miles away but is just too far to travel regularly when things go wrong!
From experience , unlike cars where warranty work can be done by any dealer who is in the franchise , motorhome dealers are only really interested if you buy from them and are not willing to take on manufacturers warranty work from another dealers stock. We are  a prime example of that!

This is generally true but SMC at Newark will do warranty work on vans not bought from them.

Thanks - I don't take any of the mags. You would have thought they would have put a link from the old web site to the new one! Its just a change in trading name and rebrand, everything else looks the same.

Does seem strange doesn't it. I first noticed a few weeks ago on the Facebook group that add for vans were put on there giving the new website address. When I clicked on the link, my browser warned that the site was dangerous. I commented on that but got no response from them. Then they advertised another van that showed it as already sold on the old website. For an AS only company, they have very few used vans, actually only 3 listed, all the rest showing sold.

we bought a new van from Marquis Tewksbury, nothing but trouble we run the van in going back and forth to have the same work fixed, while we were in the waiting room we heard another couple say, we have come back to give you the opportunity to redeem your good name!
What really surprised me was that the dealership won the MMM dealership of the year award the same year.

we have since changed vans and traveled to westcountry motorhomes a 230 mile round trip for us.
However, the van has been virtually fault free from new two years ago and we had a small problem what was fixed locally wcm paid the bill at the full rate over the phone when the work was done.
