End of Pug Gearbox Saga

Post by alythian on Tue Apr 25, 2017 1:45 pm

Hi all, £2100.00 later Hector has a working gearbox and a temperature guage that reads 84/C. The waterpump stat was £50.00 the box (my own refurbed) was £1100.00 all plus vat of course.
To try and mitigate any future water ingress to the box I am currently looking for a windscreen cover that will cover the scuttle as well as the screen on my 1995 A/S Exec. which is Pug Boxer based. Have any of you fellow travellers out there found such a thing. I would be gratefull for any details on such a cover.

Thanks in anticipation of your replies. Brett.

I have a Taylormade  screen cover which covers the screen, door windows and scuttle panel. I think Silver Screens do one as well.

£50 seems dear for a water pump - even dearer for a thermostat!

If you do a search back, the common cure was to fit a drain tube from the scuttle and feed it away from the gearbox and cross member. When I did our Executive I put a T piece in as well to drain the battery tray (windscreen washer tube used)

Hi Brett,
As roli says fit a drain pipe from the scuttle. Also extend the original scuttle pipe down to just below the near side wishbone.
Using an old hoover washing machine drain pipe hose.

Thank you all once again for your support and advice. The scuttle drain tube mod had been done to " Hector" by his previous owner; too late I suspect. I shall certainly look out the Taylormade screen cover.

Happy wandering, Brett.
