Which air freshener do you use

Post by samleeds on Fri Apr 21, 2017 6:56 pm

In a motorhome, we are all guilty of becoming nose blind, especially if we are locked up in torrid weather fighting the cold. I usually go out first thing in the morning with my coffee to stretch my legs while mission control coughs and farts her way round the van spraying and rubbing on kinds of un natural chemical products and potions designed to play with my hormones. Naturally I like a clean and fresh smelling van and I thought id throw it out there to see what everyone else is using.

Ive used everything but to be honest, I cant seem to get more than a weeks usage out of something thats supposed to last a month.

What do you guys recommend.

I'm with Rose on this one.
If there's one thing I can't stand, it's the stink from some so-called air freshener.
Air ain't supposed to smell like most of them!

Ill remember that the next time mission control asks me for £50 for some smelly. Ill tell her you ought to smell Eau Natural. I wonder if that will work, lol

I don't like air fresheners either, but sometimes when we're ensconced inside we do light a scented candle. We always carry a few of the type that come in a glass jar with lid.

Well surely they're the same things as the powered air-fresheners. They're just a chemical stink!

Nah, not the same, the aerosols and electric wick things just make me sneeze. The candles just have a bit of sandalwood oil mixed in the wax... Or maybe I'm just a pyromaniac and like the romance of a real flame...

I've had some scary asthma attacks with 'air fresheners' .

Best way to freshen up van - park here and open the windows.

Car park at south end of Girvan.

Im loving all of these replies. Nearly everyone says they use fresh air and dont need fresheners but after 40 years of caravanning, I ma surprised to see well over 80% of people all use some form of air freshener. maybe this forum is different, but i fear not, lol.

Maybe it is because in a motorhome there are always some (or many) glass windows, so a roof light or window slightly open for fresh air is desirable to reduce condensation, whereas caravan windows are all plastic ?

I'm with you on opening the Windows. Today I tried putting pure essential oil of Lavender on wooden clothes pegs ( handle end only). I distributed four or five around the van, clipped to curtains. After 20 min reading I couldn't keep my eyes open, so relaxing. Good thing we were parked up for the day on a THS meet.

Air "fresheners" and scented candles make me sneeze and my eyes water, in fact after about an hour they make me extremely uncomfortable, (and I've spent most of my working life in factories and foundries).
Our sense of smell can be very subtle and discriminating, why would anyone wish to blast it with artificial chemical smells?

I think however it may depend on the quality of the scent, at each end of the scale, I'm a sucker for rose petals and Coco (Chanel) both. up!
