changing email address

Post by repoort on Sat Mar 18, 2017 9:45 pm

Due to the Orange email system closing down in May, I need to update my details - the only thing I can't edit in my profile is the actual new address...I have sent two PM requests, but on checking, they have only got as far as my outbox for some reason, and have not been delivered...some advice needed please, to complete the task.

I had a grump last weekend about this. I am really struggling to find all the places that have my email address and I still get many emails a day sent to the orange address even after notification. I just hope my car insurance goes to the correct address.

However, that is my problem not yours. I did successfully change my address here but I can't remember how. I am on my tablet now so I can't explore but I did it from my profile without involving admin.

And having reread your post, messages (appear to) remain in your outbox until they are opened.

If you do as Machloop says then go into the email field and just change it.  Done it a few times on this and other forums which use the same board

...nope, still not working - went into profile yet again, registration information, the user name is correct, repoort. Changed the email address shown to the new one, and went into "change password" - clicked on modify, next screen current password - put the password of the old address, then the new password twice. Clicked save....next screen said incorrect password not matching the one in database.
So repeated everything yet again with all possible combinations of old addresses/passwords and new addresses/passwords.
Nothing is allowing me to change both together.
I assume that I'm missing something quite elementary, please enlighten me confused3

Same here with Orange, real pain in the bum.

However on here, I just went into my Profile, entered the new email address on the registration details section then scrolled right down the page and clicked the Save box.  Didn't touch my password field.

Admin is away on holiday at the moment, he'll pick up your PM's when he returns.

Well, well - it works !
Done exactly the same, and my new address was accepted at last, confirmed with a verification email.
The untouched password will presumably be for the old address, so will change that when I've repaired the wall where my head has been banging against all afternoon.....
Grateful thanks for a satisfying conclusion  allthumbz

You're welcome. up!

By the way, there's no need to change your password, unless you actually want to.
I just left mine as it was.

The password that is needed to change anything on your profile is your ASOF password - ie the one you use to log in to this forum. It has nothing to do with your Orange password or the password that you use for your new email provider.  So change the email address and then enter your ASOF forum password to confirm that it really is you.  And if you want to change your ASOF password you will need to enter your old ASOF password to prove to the forum that you really are who you say you are. As Roger says, you don't have to change your ASOF password to change anything in your profile but you do have to prove that you really are Repoort.

I hope that will clear up your problem.

If you have a recent Tom Tom, make sure you update the email address on that before Orange goes offline. I am surprised at the number of things I am having to change right now. I suspect most of them will continue to work without a genuine email account associated with them but you can bet at some time we will "for our own security" need to reset our password. And how do we do this? Probably from the old email.

...Tom tom - another one not on my list !
Trouble is, some of the things were registered so long ago that the original password is forgotten.
I would imagine that many Orange users will be in a similar position...but hopefully with a better memory than mine.  think_smiley_46

One reason I have stayed with EE is to keep my Freeserve email address that I have used for the past almost 20 years. Once the servers get turned off I will be moving.

One of the problems with using an isp email address if you move or they drop it you need to change again. Best to look at one of the services such as gmail, gmx, outlook etc
Cant recommend yahoo with their security problems and the issues all the bt users had when bt moved their email service over to them

Well I won't be vonuntarily moving from EE. I've been with them a long time and get a really good deal on my broadband & landline. My freeserve email has been semi-retired for quite a while now and losing isn't an issue for me.

I would be happy to stay with EE had I received the fibre broadband I have been promised several times in the past 3 years. All I get from them is a "your order has been cancelled at your request". No it hasn't. That and the on-line responses to their increased security fiasco a couple of years back hasn't left me with much confidence.

Only time I lost an account was when Ladar Levison closed lavabit without notice after the CIA got a court order for him to hand over my [and all other account passwords] just to get at Edward Snowden's emails. He wiped his servers the same day!
lol!

I'm still getting notifications to my freeserve address. Do I have to do anything else to put this right?

Once I had changed the profile, the next notification came through on the changed address.
