Carver Cascade water heater wont stay lit

Post by moonlightman on Sat Mar 11, 2017 7:17 pm

Hi all,
Looking for advice, Carver Cascade with Rapide controller, Issue is that it is not staying lit. Green light comes on, you can hear the flame ignite then after about 10secs it goes out.
I have followed Brian Plummer Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZ6ZbRKpffQ) and found it brilliant, however, although my flame height has increased greatly, I still have the clicking from the starter and the burner will only stay lit for about 10 secs and the the gas gets shut off.
All other appliances are working correctly. Any advice greatly appreciated. think_smiley_46

You're not getting 'flame rectification'. At a guess youll need to replace the control box/pcb.

I don't know this water heater, but the Truma model fitted in my Topaz behaves exactly as described when the winter exhaust cover has not been removed........as I discovered today !!!

This is what I discovered. If you take of the plastic cowl, that exposes a a small round metalic thing at the back of the square flue, looks like the end of a bolt, if you wet your finger and give it a clean a few rubs. Then go into the camper with the burner left exposed and press the button to start the heater, if the red light dosent come on, go outside and check, if you see the burner working, just say ta. Worked for me, I understand that little metal thing is the flame sensor and if it dosent detect flame it cuts the gass off, its quire sensitive. Goog luck.
