Awning for my new Nuevo EK Empty Awning for my new Nuevo EK

Post by Eltel Mon Feb 13, 2017 6:58 pm

studying Sorry if this subject has been covered before....

The one problem with downsizing the Motorhome is that you have to have a rethink of where to put everything.

So I looking for a drive away air awning to fit a 2016 Nuevo EK

As i am going to the NEC next week a good opportunity to have a look round at the options and offers.

Probably will not purchase straight away as I will try my existing drive away awning (problem is me and my current awning don't get on)

Any advice would be appreciated.

I've looked at a few recently and have decided to buy the Kampa Travel Pod Action Air   http://www.kampa.co.uk/drive-away-awnings/travel-pod-action-air

Certainly not the cheapest available, but you get what you pay for. It comes in 3 heights and I'm guessing you would need the tallest.

The Vango Kela 3 was a close second on my shortlist, but the fact that the groundsheet was sewn in, put me off it.

Its a couple of years old but has only been up once, its complete with pump ground sheet protector, pegs storm straps etc.  It also has a proper storage bag (Gardners) not the flimsey one supplied

Dont have any pictures but you should be able to view on Vangos web site.  Collected from here £350 and its an excellent buy

I understand your thinking Terry.

One of the great pluses in upsizing from the Duetto to the Inca (not that much bigger than the Nuevo) was no longer having to find a home for a soaking wet drive away awning (it always was!) till I could hang it up in the garage to dry.

If you hang on a few months and try living without the awning first, you might find you don't really need it.

Hi Roger

I'll take a look at the website and see the real thing next week at the NEC

I'll be back in touch.

Have to agree with this. Since we got the Nuevo we have resigned the drive-away to the loft and never got it out again.

As Peter says, maybe try living with the van for a few trips first to decide if you really need one.

Me too. My wife was (and sometimes still is) keen on getting a modest sized awning for ours after we agreed to purchase. I persuaded her to wait until we had a few miles and site visits under our belts first. It's now on the back burner as we've not found enough reasons to buy one yet.

Another in full agreement, although I guess it depends a lot on how you use your van.

If you are a fair weather camper and take advantage of the motorhomer's ability to move on after a day or two, you probably don't need an awning.

For winter camping, or staying in one place for a week or more, then an awning may well be very useful.

One thing to consider however. You could find yourself emulating those caravanners who have no choice but to erect their awning as soon as they arrive, because it takes up so much room inside the van. This would not be very convenient if you overnight on French aires en route to the sun!

No reason why you shouldn't enjoy both/all forms of camping. You could buy Roli's bargain awning and use it only on those trips where it would be an advantage, and leave it at home for the summer trips to France, when the sun awning would be more use.

Just some thoughts. We find the Nuevo has enough storage space for a three or four week holiday - but only just!!

As a regular awning user, I agree with all of that and it pretty much sums up how mine was used.

My current Ventura Freestander is well designed and superb quality, as you would expect from Isabella, but now I've downsized, it is for sale because with quality comes weight and bulk.
I still intend using the new "air" awning as a dog drying room, before he gets in to my new van while soaking wet.
