Bathroom Coat Hooks Empty Bathroom Coat Hooks

Post by Rubi's Dad Fri 3 Feb 2017 - 17:29

I would like to put a couple of hooks up on the bathroom wall of my Broadway EK on the right hand side as you are looking at the mirror. Does anyone know what the wall is made of and thickness? Just want to be careful re fixings i.e. is it 3/4 ply or are this there so studding, if so where?

Thanks in advance.

oh_blast! blushes Be warned the coat hooks I fitted to a certain  motorhome cost me a new mirror. innocent I sussed and boggled for about 10 seconds thinking I had found the perfect location to be rewarded with a loud crack as the last screw went through into the mirror. Unless things have changed the bathroom walls can be very thin ply. I finished up fastening the hooks to the door instead of the wall. There are coat hooks opposite the heater so I have been banned from attaching things with screws in our Rienza, management says. tap_fingers

I've used Command Hooks, the type that stick on to hang bath towels on in our shower area (and tea towels and dog leads in other parts of the van) make sure the surface is clean and grease free before sticking in place. Avoid cheaper alternatives, they are likely to fall off!
They can be taken off without leaving holes at a later date if required

Find something screwed to the same wall, take a screw out and get the same - not easy to find.  Use double side adhesive tape behind the hook before screwing on.  Internal walls tend to be MDF and external ply but nothing as thick as 3/4 anywhere.  Do be careful because once you breach the outer surface there's no going back.

If it's of interest, we hang (only) light coats on the hooks meant to hold the clothes airing line extended.

If yours has the same layout it may solve your problem without any risk - as Peter warns above! I doubt if the internal walls are more than 4mm thick, and for obvious reasons they use lightweight ply.

We do exactly the same as Dave when actually travelling (coats on the washing line hooks in the bathroom) then move them to the coat hooks on the two grab-handles above the driver's and passenger's doors when on sites.

I don't know the bathroom layout in the EK, but in our EB I sikafexed two 22mm pushfit pipe clips one either side of shower cubical.
When the sika had cured I cut a length of 22mm chrome pipe and pushed it in the clips, we now can hang jackets shirts etc when wet, or use as a normal wardrobe rail.
I did this mod almost 3 years ago and still fixed well to the walls.

If you are only wanting to hang small towels or face flannels then try this. Underneath the wooden cupboard, to the left of the bathroom sink, there is enough space to put 2 parallel lengths of plastic coated curtain wire, using the solid wood of the cupboard to hold the hooks, which simply screw in by hand.

Weve used these for 4 years now and still going strong.

Like Dave we hang towels on the hooks fitted for the clothes airer.

We have also put 2 coat hooks on the wooden unit to your left as you come in the hab door and two, one either side, behind the driver and passrnger on the cab bulkheads. These are where each of our coats and fleeces live when not being worn.

Thanks all. I have tried Command Hooks but because the wall has a textured paper they did not hold successfully.  Remove a screw from same wall ! Bloody obvious now, brilliant, thank you !!
