sticky step switch Empty sticky step switch

The last few times I have entered my van I have felt that the step switch was sticking a bit. Heather thinks it is as it always has been but I'm not convinced.

The snow has just reached south London but once the weather gets better I intend to have a look at it and hope a bit of 3 in 1 will get it more to my liking but how do I gain access. Does the chrome surround just pull off or is there something else I have to do?

If the switch cover is the square type, about 2", the cover pulls off. There may be a samll indent on the edge, use a small electrical screwdriver to prise off.

I'm not sure aboutĀ 3 inĀ 1 Dave? I think I would use a tiny smear of silicone oil in preference, but that's me being picky! uncertain

If you can't get at it from Peter's advice I'll brave the weather and have a look at ours - which is probably the same as yours.

Thanks both, I'll have a look when that slippery stuff disappears from the slope I have to park on.

My main concern is what happens when I remove the chrome trim. I'm hoping the rest of the switch will remain in one piece but I am good at getting things to disassemble by holding them in exactly the wrong way. That is why I spent most of my apprenticeship in the drawing office rather than out on the assembly floor.

The switch is fixed with screws, it won't fall apart on you.

Hi. This happened with our new 2016 Nuevo as soon as the very cold weather arrived in West Yorkshire (we live on an exposed side of the Pennines and so get it quite badly) . We would depress the switch but it would stick a little and not a lot would happen with the step. The van was due at the dealer to sort out another minor problem and so they used that opportunity to change the switch. It hasn't made any difference and as soon as we have a cold spell (around and below freezing) the switch becomes sticky and the step either moves eventually or not at all. As soon as the temperature picks up above freezing the switch starts to behave normally again. I wash down the step and brackets after each journey as they really pick up road muck and I wanted to make sure that a mucky step wasn't contributing to the problem. I'll try the silicone oil tip and so thanks for that.

Thank you Lemon2. I thought ours was getting sticky. You describe our symptoms perfectly so it must be a design feature.
