football supporters away trips and tips

Post by almar on Fri Nov 11, 2016 11:03 pm

Hi. My wife and myself are preston north end supporters and we often go to away games and make the trip into a bit of a holiday.
One pub we go to when we go to Sheffield or Rotherham is the Three Merry Lads at lodge moor which is to the west of Sheffield, it take about 11/2hrs to walk down into Sheffield are you can catch the no51 bus which are about every 15 minutes until midnight the bus stop is five minute walk from the pub between the Three Merry Lads and the bus stop there is another pub called the sportsman both pubs are very good.
The Three Merry Lads as electric  hookup [£4] per night and a water supply, there is a charge of £8per night to stay on the allocated parking bay but if you eat and drink in the pub there is no charge.
There is excellent walking from there, staniage edge is about 2mile away easy walking, you can do plenty of circular walks as well as walking down to Sheffield on various paths.
Any Ideas for other football trips.

I also use my camper for away games - but most stadiums are difficult to access from campsites. The Lea Valley is OK for north London games, Crystal Palace cc site for south London, parking in Hull (around the stadium) is OK, Liecester is a problem - not found anywhere in that area. Middlesborough is OK near the ground. Stop in Southport (cc site) for Liverpool.

Bristol has a great cc site within 10 mins WALK of the Bristol City ground at Baltic wharf open all year but gets fully booked so need to book well in advance

AND for my team the once mighty FOREST there is a camp site at the Watersport centre at Holme Pierrepont less than 30mins walk from
the City Ground, Meadow Lane and if football not enough as well as all the watersport at HP Trent Bridge is across the Road from Forest Ground if you fancy seeing Lancashire or England play there.

Hi Dave.
Ive been to the water sports campsite three times when we have played forest or county.
Nice easy walk along the river to the grounds, city center also walked along the river to the locks about 5miles along the river.
There is a very good pub next to Notts countys ground.
Might be at the forest match in December.

Just seen that you don't have to camp this year as PNE supporters can get FREE transport to the game
