Is everyone all done for the year

Post by samleeds on Tue Nov 01, 2016 4:56 pm

Just wondered how many of you are packed up for the winter. We are away this weekend on a rally for bonfire, away with 2 very good friends up in the lakes mid november for 4 nights and over to York at the close of the month for the xmas shopping meeting rally with my mates at Huddersfield DA. Mission control is working on December and hopefully January will see us over in Europe somewhere for a month or 2.

We,'ve been away in the van for last 3 new year's but don't think we will this year but we'll be out and about by the end of January. Been back for 10 days now from last trip and I think that's it now till January. Just drained down van this morning.......but you never know, son has just moved house and it's 'dad can you.....?'  (he's 90 miles away), so maybe, just maybe!

Like Paul I have drained down the van , however still have away days along the coast.
Unlikly to venture out until next spring, unlike some of our more hardy members.
Carn't afford to be a head abroad for the winter , so stay put.

think_smiley_46 Our Rienza is drained down as normal after our short break to Filey but wont take long to re-fill the water tank and fill the fridge. I have just been looking at the weather forecast thinking of a day out to give the van a run out perhaps take muttly he likes Filey beach. Or maybe Whisby mature reserve.doggy
Since swapping to the Rienza and having more leisure time we are out a lot more. The sites are a nice and quite out of season.

Yes, drained down but at least one trip still to go this year.......back to the dealers for them to complete some warranty work  rolleyes  It becomes a bit more complicated when the MH is in storage, I would by more flexible if I had a drive to keep it on.

We are going abroad in a couple of weeks but without the wheels this time (to celebrate a significant birthday and an even more significant anniversary).

I 'ummed and arred' as the tax on mine expired at the end of October so I considered putting it to sleep till the spring.   I decided against in the end! I thought some days out for a bit of photography and the odd overnighter would be fun!.   Nothing more cosy tan being tucked up in a cosy motorhome when the weather is lashing it down outside!!

We carry on and get away at least once a month for 3 or 4 nights during winter. We tend to go to CC or CCC sites where we know they have heated shower blocks with hopefully a nice pub within walking distance.

Four nights booked at Black Horse Farm CC Kent from next Monday. Very rarely stay at sites with shower facilities due to high cost during peak season. User manual states 10 litre hot water tank capacity that we feel is insufficient for two consecutive showers as refill in winter months takes some time to heat up from cold despite electric gas operation. Obviously we are too extravagant with the limited hot water and should adopt the initial on /off, lather up and on again continental style as been suggested on previous posts. Can't recall the hot water capacity on our previous Broadway EK but able to enjoy two somewhat languishing showers of approximately two minutes duration each before hot water ran out. Well... perhaps on second thoughts, we are lacking the 'true grit' that accompanies the full adventure of motorhoming for all the ups and downs?

Off down to Surrey and Sussex mid-November, then back via Herts. Home for a couple of weeks, then Rutland and Peterborough over Christmas. No firm plans after that, but may go to the CC National at end of May - anyone else likely to be there, or been before.....?

If you avoid weekends, even the CC is relatively cheap. The nearest one to our son in the Black Country, Chapel Lane Wythall, costs £19 at weekends but drops to £14 Mondays to Thursdays. That may apply to other CC sites, I haven't checked.

Don't know why type size changed in the middle.

Correction, will hopefully be enjoying 5 nights at Black Horse Farm CC site next week and that's at £15.40 with toilet block. Plenty of spaces available. Immediate bus service and Chalk and Channel cycle path.

We are usually packed away by now and every year we've said it was too soon , this year we are away up to and over the New year for a few days , so we will see how we get on . Haven't been away for a few weeks as hubby is in Diy and tree pruning  mode tap_fingers , but think we will drain the pump and flush tank this weekend now we've had a frost , other tanks are already empty .

We always use ours all year. Only thing that would stop us is heavy snow on the roads. Love winter glamping, all warm and cozy with quiet roads, sites and often glorious views with sunny frosty or snowy days.

Think my wife's got ideas for one more trip this year.  She did mention bookings two pitches at Rutland, where our caravan is still stored, and getting our daughter and her fella away with us.
But, I've a promise to finish our cloakroom for Xmas to uphold, so I'm not sure I'll have any spare time to get away.

Evening to all. We are off to Devon just before Christmas to deliver presents to my Dad and family. Im an exile from Devon living hapily in Kent :) We are staying in a campsite near Kinsbridge, not too far from my family home. Will be taking my hottie! Im surprised there are so many campsites open all year :) Unfortunately working over Christmas as many others are. Looking forward to it !

We do the odd overnight during the colder months, mainly when travelling from Scotland to the south.

However we do use the motorhome loads for days out all through the winter. Today was a classic example - lovely blue skies and sunshine but very cold and windy here in Fife, so good if behind glass (or acrylic!).

We went to the farmers market in St Andrews this morning, bought a couple of Arbroath smokies hot from Spinks' smoking tub, some freshly baked morning rolls and a couple of salted caramel lattes, then parked the motorhome up at the West Sands and enjoyed our breakfast with a superb view through our large picture windows, overlooking the sand dunes, watching the crashing white waves break on the beautiful (Chariots of Fire) beach.

We then drive around lovely countryside, enjoying the views from our elevated position above the hedgerows, stopping at a local farm shop to buy some fresh crab paté, stuffed chillies and a sun-dried tomato artisan loaf. We meandered along to Ruby Bay, Elie  and parked up overlooking another lovely beach with views across the Firth of Forth. It was still sunny but even colder and windier outside, however after a brief walk we were back tucked up in our cosy heated motorhome ready to enjoy our lunch.  Then a leisurely couple of hours relaxing to Classic FM and enjoying the views (and watching all the freezing cold folk walking by!) before driving along the East Neuk coastal route through a string of pretty seaside villages and harbours, arriving home just before dark.

We enjoy days out like this all through the year, so get loads of use from our motorhome even when we're not actually camping in it overnight.
