Running costs of Nuevo

Hello folks, as some will know, we recently sold our 2005 Autosleeper Nuevo after six years of ownership.
Whilst sad to see her go, others may think I'm sad for keeping an accurate record of all expenses.
With that in mind, I have just collated all the information and thought it may be of interest to fellow owners.
So, here goes:

Purchase price: £24,995.

Total costs over the six years including diesel, mechanical servicing, habitation servicing, repairs, vehicle tax, vehicle insurance, breakdown insurance, Caravan Club membership, parts and accessories and all campsite fees: £16,998.

Selling price: £21,000.

Taking the above figures into account, the total cost is £20,993.

That may sound a lot, but we used the 'van for 454 nights, with over 400 of those on paid campsite pitches.
That works out at £46.24 per night for the two of us, which we feel reasonable, bearing in mind that before purchasing the 'van, we used to pay on average around £80 per night for good farmhouse B&B accommodation (not including fuel costs of getting around in the car).

Our total vehicle mileage in the 6 years was 22,317 miles and we used 693 gallons of diesel, giving a fuel consumption figure of 32.28 mpg.

One other figure of note is that whilst away on sites, we cycled over 6,500 miles.

One incalculable figure is the amount of pleasure we have had whilst enjoying our motorhoming adventures.
This was our first 'van and when we bought her we didn't know if we were going to like the lifestyle, but my how we have. We've seen some wonderful places (Wales, England and Scotland only), met some wonderful (and weird) people and have explored many miles of country lanes on our bikes and enjoyed fine fare in some lovely pubs too.

I must also add how much enjoyment we have had (me particularly, as I visit this site almost daily) from this utterly brilliant forum. We've had help with a few problems, lots of guidance and encouragement and generally a great time from a wonderful community. As we've now moved on from Autosleeper ownership, I had suggested I would leave the forum too. However, I have been encouraged to stay, besides which, it's so damn addictive.

Glad you're staying on the forum Neuvoboy, you must have kept very detailed records. I haven't done that and, beyond a photographic record of the places we've been, I don't intend to. Your point about the pleasure you've got is well made, we got the MH for specific reasons and it's worked out better than we expected in that respect. 

How do you evaluate good value for money when it comes down to the "pleasure" factor, like eating out, would you always go for the cheapest eatery or do other factors come into play? Cost (within reason and personal budget) is only part of the equation IMHO.

You can't take it with you, and the pleasure gained from counting fivers wears pretty thin after a while. Much better to enjoy what the fivers will buy for you.

Can't put it better than that.

We have only had our van a couple of months and I can't compete with that level of detail. I do record my fuel usage on a German fuel use data gathering site which is what generates the figure in my sig but beyond that I can't (won't) say what we spent.

However it's Dave's bold text that drove us to get a new van this year. I was happy with the old Transit (well sort of happy) but neither Heather nor I are in the best of health. We decided buying a new van now should give us 5 years but hopefully more. If we waited another 3 years before replacing the Transit we might only get 2 years use from a new van and that would be a waste.

In the one holiday in the new van we have already ticked off 3 Cities on our "must visit" list and 2 race circuits (slowly being typed up in the Member's travels section). That would either be expensive or impossible without camping - and the tent went when my back did so the van IS THE BEST!

Actually, I've changed my profile at least three times, but it still comes up as a Nuevo owner.

Like dbroada I have only had my Broadway 3 months and I know its the best decision after retiring 4 months ago I have made ,unfortunately I should have been in York this week but illness to my wife put it off till next .my wife said I am not to record all the spends ect as it the joy of using that's the reward after 46 years of work .keep giving the waves  Barrie
