Haven Blue Dolphin Campsite

Post by mikeyval on Fri Oct 14, 2016 9:55 am

Would like to ask if anyone has stayed at the Haven Blue Dolphin Campsite near Filey

We are particularly trying to find out if it is a level place or hilly. Walking difficulties have prompted the question.
Any other information about this site would also be useful.   We are planning a mid 2017 holiday for 8 people in 4 caravans.
Thanks everyone
Mikeyval

I haven't been there but live by Filey so I could go and have a look for you if you don't get any other answers.

Google earth is a good tool for looking at sites Mikey, not as good as local knowledge ,Jaytee lives nearby and if there's a cafe with scones for sale, I'm sure he will have a recce  for you.

Hi, have stayed there a few times usually at the start and end of the season because its very cheap at those times and not many kids about.
Its on a bit of a slope but not too bad, access to toilets and showers is good.
Buses go from outside the camp to Scarborough Filey and Bridlington
There is a nice clifftop walk into filey but not suitable if you have walking difficulties.
When you book if you explain that you have mobility problems they may put you at the top of the site which is a bit more level.

Hi Mikeyval. Went and had a nose yesterday and wow it's huge!! Office staff very helpful and gave me a map to go and have a look at the flat'ish pitches. They said that they cannot guarantee pitches as the computer just allocates them per day and also cannot guarantee you would be pitched together. Only option would be to request this at time of booking by phone not on line and then on day of arrival phone early as office staff can override the computer. Sounds like a load of hassle to me.
The site is mainly hilly on roads as well as pitches but we did drive round and mark the flatter ones on the map which I can email if you are still of a mind to go there.
I will have a look at primrose valley (1/2 mile from me) if you want.
Do you want large commercial sites and close to the sea or do you have other options?
All best John

Hi Mikey
Have you considered Filey Brigg campsite , its slightly sloping back from the cliffs, level grass pitches, with good amenities. Cafe, very near Filey town.
John, myself and Modelman have been there and I'm sure plenty of other members have too!
A good sized Tesco in town, some of the best fish and chips shops in Bridlington .

Hi John.
First to say thank you for making the visit to Blue Dolphin. Co-incidentally last evening we received information from a friend who has been to Blue Dolphin.
Their information backs up that which you supplied.

Given this information we have decided to book at Primrose Valley. We have, at Primrose Valley all that our group wanted and that included being pitched together.
Once again many thanks for your assistance it may also aid others
Kind regards
Mike

Let us know when you are there and we can say hello or you could pop over to us for a brew or whatever drinksallround

The Royal Oak pub which is only half a mile from Primrose Valley is 180 paces from our house (340 on way back home hugegrins) and they do wholesome food.
All best John

Sorry Boaby, but you don't have to travel the 10 miles to Bridlington hugegrins the best fish and chip shops are in Filey winks

Try the Brown Room, Dicky Bee's or Inghams all excellent and the best on the Yorkshire Coast allthumbz

Hubert, I must admit I haven't tried a fish supper from Filey clippers, since 2008
Chips at the 149 (Marton rd, Camilla visited ) and the Bride of Bridlington (Quay rd) have won, the best fish and chip shop awards in recent years.
We love coming to the county park and spending the day and occasionly meeting some old friends .

Fish and chip wars snigger .  topmarks Filey hugegrins.

Agree with Boaby, the Briggs a good spot. Not got the entertainment etc of Primrose Valley though.
