Been rear ended in my Clubman.

Post by wakaday on Sun Sep 25, 2016 5:26 pm

Grr.
Sitting at a junction minding my own business when suddenly Bertha was struck from behind by an Astra.
Front of the Astra is a mess. Bertha suffered nothing more than a bent rear bar.
I have straightened the Bar once before and it turned out better than I expected but i think it will need replacing now. Question is, are they available, cost and where from? The Guy doesnt really want to go through insurance which is fine.

I'd find out if any damage has been done elsewhere before you go through the non insurance route. Someone went into the back of my old car and the brokers made me take it to a garage before I drove it home. I was about 80miles from home. Lucky no major damage but the insurers wrote my car off anyway.

So sorry to here that, hope you get it fixed soon. Just watch that neck, whiplash can happen and I am sure the insurers would want to know about that.

If it is the stainless bar, I believe they are still available, as I was thinking of having one on my model which AS stopped putting them on .

I agree, do get your vehicle checked, the forces from such a shunt can be dispersed further into the vehicle frame than just the back bar.
I had a car written off, looked fine but on closer examination the boot floor had rippled, reducing its strength significantly for any future collision.

Cheers all.
It is just the Stainless Bar. I have been underneath the rear and its all fine and Dandy. Absolutely no Fibreglass damage or markings on it whatsoever thankfully.
No need for whiplash or any false claims mlarky.
The other car hit me at less than walking pace and thankfully I had my foot off the Brake ready to pull away.
Those Bars are tough old Hectors.

I feel somewhat aggrieved. I mention "Watch that neck" because it is a well known fact that whiplash injuries are not always immediately apparent, can be serious and you must tell your insurers when they happen. At no time did I suggest any 'false claims mlarky'

Glad there is no serious damage to the van.

well known fact insurance premiums are on the rise because of so called injuries, if genuine yes, but at the first sign of anything amiss some jump on the bandwagon and shout claim, which we all pay for.

Good read.
I was rear ended in my works van a few years ago. Sitting at a red light minding my own business and then bang. I passed all the details to the Fleet company and thought no more of it. 18 months later, i find out the Guy who hit me is pursuing a whiplash claim. Thankfully, a combination of Dash cam footage and Telematics on the Vehicle caused an epic fail on his behalf.
