We were on a site last week where reception was very poor, we only got about 8 channels with no BBC at all and I noticed that the van next to us (a Nuevo) was using one of these in the link below. It fastens by suction to a window and his picture was really good (don't know how many channels he got), so I've been thinking of getting one to use in such circumstances. Normally we don't have a problem.

I have a 2010 AS Suffolk and from day one the reception was useless. It has a boosted factory fitted omni directional aerial.
AS were no help when told of the problem and Marquis said the reception in their area was poor. Most certainly a directional
aerial would improve the situation.
Its a pity nobody will admit there is a problem.
I might go satellite.

I have the same problem - TV reception is a bit iffy to say the least and I was considering an alternative.

Looking on Amazon, the Avtex aerial gets some very good reviews

One of the excuses I was given was that the digital signal will only be at full strength when the analogue signal is phased out.
Well analogue transmissions are very few these days (if any)and none in my area , there was NO improvement in reception.

I think the standard omnidirectional aerials are "us" compared with the directionals, which have a similar roof boss. However, before you go spending money as I nearly did on our last van (I had taken the van in for a directional to be fitted), got back to pick the van up and the old aerial was still on.
The company (recent new trade member on here, based in Warrington) had started the job and found the coax installed by AS between the preamp and the coax socket was of low grade (loose woven) they decided to replace this first and found that with decent coax there was nothing wrong with the exisiting aerial.
They lost a sale of a new aerial but they also know I will go back to them and spend more than what they would have made on the aerial sale

I replaced the Omni-directional aerial last year for a Status 530/10 and booster, however had to use my Avtex sTh 1000 aerial earlier this year down in south Wales.
I think in the same area as Paul, we picked up TV stations from the west counties and Eire, it was attached to a painters extention pole, clipped to the rear ladders.
However the Status 530/10 aerial normally picks up most stations. up!

Although we seem to get a pretty good signal with our Status 530 on most sites, our Nuevo is fitted with the brown coax which I suspect is the same as you are referring to roli? I have some Webro WF100 top quality cable in the garage left over from our roof aerial which I would like to use but don't know how much hassle it is to replace the cable shrugg as it goes down the wardrobe wall am I right in presuming it then goes across the floor then up to the unit above the fridge? if so how do you feed the cable through?

We have the Status omnidirectional aeriel, and have had no problem with reception where the analogue has been switched off. Ie full digital -no problem.

Strangely the only place we get limited reception is in our front yard, but then we are at the bottom of a hill, shadowed from the 100kW transmitter 10 miles away!

thanks to all for practical suggestions and comments; will try rewiring with somed decent coax; failing that the avtec aerial on amazon @ £40 should do the trick...still a bit annoying though on a new van...i did ask AS technical and they said "no one else has reported a problem with our fitted aerials before !!!...make what you like of that comment !!

Our "Status" omni directional works well in most situations. Things did improve when we upgraded to a new TV set.

tv reception Empty excellent tv...at last!!!

Post by geoff brooke Wed Aug 08, 2012 2:34 pm

Hi to all tv watchers....bought an avtex sth 2000 mobile digital aerial from amazon.....£41.79 inc pp plus free 112/ 24 volt converter ( can now use in lorry.)
away in the van at reighton gap.north yorkshire coast south of scarborough (wild camp....fabulous sea views and direct access to huge EMPTY beach (mid summer ) and picked up 42 digital channels perfectly.
night before stayed at new inn pub in crofton (pickering)...micro brewery...fab roast beef dinner and terrific beers....asked landlord if ok to park in pub car park....level hardstanding....no charge....spent £30 in pub on two dinners and 3 rounds of drinks.......better than forking out £30 to stay on a caravan club site !
why do site owners expect us to pay from £20 upwards tpo park on a bit of wet, sloping grass......the french , italian, germasn motorhomers would just laugh and walk away !!....stell platz in germany 5 euros per night inc hook up fresh water...grey water and toilet waste disposal inc.........rip off britain.sorry for the rant but now we have a m. home instead of the caravan i cant see us ever again paying for campsites.

If you don't like paying for campsites, but like pubs, have a look at this web site:

You can always trust a Yorkshire Man to find Summat f Nought!

Think reading it it was started by a publican in North Yorkshire
