Hi there from Orkney, new to motorhomes/campervans. After weeks of trawling tinternet I am now leaning toward the VW AS trooper although I do prefer the layout of the transit based AS Duetto but the rust issues put me off. Transits can be scrapped at 10 year old up here due to the salt atmosphere !

Hello and asof_welcome2 from Leicestershire.  a VW owner

What about a Topaz, or depending on funds a Trophy, same layout. both on a VW base similar to a Duetto layout.

Good luck with your search for your ideal van, lovely part of the country you live in by the way.

Also don`t write off the Clubman gl, monocoque bodies, no rust or leaks, not from the bodies anyway, on a VW base will also go into a car place.

Thanks for the welcome  smile! I am willing to consider other variants. With living on an island its a trip on its own just to go and view so at the end of the day my choice will more or less come down to whats available close at hand.

I see Highland campervans near Inverness are selling a 09 Trooper on Adtrader, however it appears to be reserved.
Have you been successful ?

Yup seen that one but a bit over my budget. There has been 2 possibles in Morayshire however I can not get off the island until mid October to go shopping so missed those.:( Might broaden the search and start researching Boxer/ducato models.

Don't think you are right in saying Transits can be scrapped at 10

There are quite a few on here will agree, our last van which was 8 this year was still like new including the underneath and in much better condition than some of the Sevel vans and it wasn't plastered with under seal like the current van

Maybe 10 year is a slight exaggeration but seriously they do not like the salt air environment.
