clubman door retaining clip

Post by mobileone on Sat Jul 09, 2016 6:33 pm

I have a plastic exterior door retaining clip which has become loose and does not hold the door open if it is breezy.Any suggestions to source a replacement?

Drill hole (diameter of coat hanger wire) in each of the plastic fasteners--one hole vertical and the other horizontal. Cut piece of stiff coat hanger wire to desired length and then bend the ends one a right angle and the other u shaped and insert into holes. Works fine for me on a 2004 Talisman and keeps the opened doors away from fridge vents.

Every possible type is available on eBay but none work anyway. There was a thread on this subject a while ago. One alternative option to the post above is a bungey elastic from hinge to wheel arch.

We keep a couple of spares, of the original type, in the van for when they stop working.

I think that they're about £2 each and it takes 2 minutes to change them.

I bought a brass hook & eye from Homebase as I got fed up with keep changing the plastic clips, ok so I had to make a new hole & fill the existing ones but it works a treat & also keeps the door wellaway frome the fridge vent. up!
