Auto-Sleeper Breakers

Post by CarryOnCamping on Thu Jun 30, 2016 8:47 am

I need parts for my 1992 Talisman GL. Does anyone know if there are any specialist UK breakers I might contact?

I don't think there are any specialist motorhome breakers. Caravan breakers will deal with many of the same parts for the habitation side while specialist van breakers deal with the base vehicles. Of course there is always Ebay.

Not sure if they still do, but one of the two camping clubs used to publish a list of caravan breakers on their website.

But, as a general observation, breakers of caravans/motorhomes are typically a disappointing experience - they often want very large amounts of money (sometimes what appears to be insanely large amounts of money) for bashed-about stuff that is nearing the end of its working life. Take a look at the price of secondhand caravan fridges on Ebay and you will see what I mean!

Do you need habitation parts, or base vehicle parts?

Thanks for all the replies. My main issue is the off side ParaPress sliding window which has a couple of nasty holes in it. Told by the previous owner is was done by kids taking pot shots with an air gun. I know about the EECO route but that means removing and posting off the damaged section and having to wait 2 or 3 weeks for a new replacement to arrive. I've been quoted £308 inc. I guess its a long shot but I was hoping I might get a complete window from a breaker's yard. Less hassle and hopefully less money.

There are several sliding windows on EBay. Some are listed as 'side windows ' so don't narrow your search by looking for 'sliding'. You may just be lucky and find the right size.
There are two listings for sliders from a Renault Trafic AS from 1984.
Also this pair not quoting what they came off...

Thanks Paul but those eBay ones don't look the same and they are not double glazed. I tune into eBay most days but nothing has turned up yet. I do wonder if I'm restricting myself by searching for AS Talbot Express Talisman windows? Perhaps other AS models on different chassis utilised identical ParaPress d/g windows? I've emailed Cheltenham Laminates (thanks roli) so maybe they'll come back with some positive info.

Cheltenham Laminates say they only made the shells and refered me to AS who had previously refered me to EECO. ParaPress the original window manufacturer have a website but don't appear to have a messaging service or email address available. In any event I doubt they will still stock complete windows for a 24 year old Talisman. So it looks like EECO may be my only solution. As the turn around is some time I'll wait until the summer (such as it is) is over unless I can find a breaker with a window unit.

There are a few complete motorhomes being broken up on Ebay (not AS's but you might just get the size you need). Search 'breaking motorhome' and 'breaking campervan'.
