Exchanging Parts Accessories etc

Post by NORGIL on Wed Jun 01, 2016 5:35 pm

It is always a crying shame when someone has spares or parts that another user could make use of but is unable to get them to someone who could make use of them either because postage is too expensive or often the packing of the items is difficult because of their shape size or fragility.  it is particularly an issue for those of us with older vans where parts are increasingly difficult to obtain.

I saw a post on here a while ago where someone suggested trying to arrange part movement between members of the forum which seems a great idea.

Since I live roughly in the middle of the country 5 mins from J6 (Bham Airport) of the M42 and therefore not far from M5 and M6 I am offering to accept parts etc from someone who wants to drop them off for collection by another member. I am happy to hang onto the parts etc for a few days till the other member can collect them. Obviously there needs to be a bit of common sense as to what I can accept and I do not want to be involved in the passing of money between the parties.

If anyone feels that having a halfway point could be of use to them and it helps someone to use a few bits that would otherwise get scrapped then drop me a message.

Norman

It was I who suggested some kind of either shuttle network or collection, and/or a central distribution system.

Maybe there could be a parts 'bin' at rallies etc?

I threw away all our old '95 Exec blinds ages ago, and I note that someone is needing one at the moment.

I've had various MPK parts and some spare wineglass spotlight parts that I'd have been happy to give away too.

Most of the time there's little value in these things, but they're like gold dust if they're no longer available.

Good suggestion Me an Chris I did a search and couldnt find the originator, I could have used at least one of those blinds !

Lets hope we can make something work and save some parts from extinction and save some members a few bob as well.. win win hopefully.

On the other hand.
I've been having a MAJOR sort out and found some Trafic parts. Offered them on the RTMR forum, gratis - just pay postage or I'd take them to a rally. No response shrugg
Found a couple of MkIV Zephyr bits, found the owners club website and emailed to say that I had these parts and does anyone want them? - didn't even answer my email.

I don't like throwing 'gold dust' away but if people can't be bothered to get in contact, what do you do? scratch head You take them to the tip and 6 months later they're asking if you still have 'that distributor' or whatever it was.

I am amazed no one snapped up the Zephyr parts, they must be as rare as rocking horse
 sh oes now,

I have long wanted a breakers yard or repository for old spares but always been to busy, now i have the time and a spare storage unit perhaps I should but it still comes down to stuff being local enough.

If the ability to drop off and collect is of use to someone so be it if it isnt at least it was worth a try.

I fully agree, but sometimes it can be very frustrating when you're just trying to do someone a favour.

Some of the Trafic parts are pretty hard to get now too! But in fairness, Frank, most people don't know that they are even ~likely~ to need a specific part until they ~actually~ need the part, so I can understand that it's likely you would not get takers for quite a while. Which if you are having a clearout sort of defeats the point!

I can probably do some dropoffs if they coincide with long distance trips.

Have you tried ebay Frank?
I sold an awning on there four hours after I advertised it, for the full price.

You would be surprised what you can sell!

If you don't, then take it to the tip!!

Can't be bothered PB. But while I'm here, is anyone interested in a 'Pearson's Illustrated servicing guide' for the Vauxhall Victor F, FB & FC. Good condition but smells a bit fusty. Yours for the price of postage.

Edit: covers VX4/90 as well

Post by lindabuller on Fri Jun 17, 2016 8:02 am

Sounds like a good idea, however my problem is finding the part in the first place ! Wing Mirror (nearside) for VW autosleeper clubman GL.
Autosleeper says to go to VW,
VW says to search breakers yards.Various companys on tinternet have sent mirror of wrong size,as my vehicle is registered as a T4 Transporter.

I have just bought one, near side, from TPS  Trade Parts Specialist part no. S7D0857547  37.68 PLUS VAT = 42.22 , I thought I had ordered just the mirror and bezel, when collecting it was the whole lot boxed. It is a truck mirror not a T4 Transporter mirror.

This may be of interest to others.

Margaret
